I dealt with the same exact situation 2 months ago, old tunze which lasted almost 10 years finally died, upgraded to osmolator 3, no complaints and I trust the brand.

The Osmolator 3 is great. I got mine after my 3155 died and it’s been perfect. At first I didn’t like that it came without a controller but I ended up enjoying less clutter in my electronics.

Crazy as it may sound, I moved away from stand alone ATO systems when I ditched my Apex A3 and installed the Hydros System almost a year ago. I have found their ATO kit to be the most reliable I have ever had. It keeps the tank at 35ppt and does not waver. By adding an additional Tripple water level sensor and two of their small direct drive pumps ($25 each) I can do AWC's without issues. At this point I'd never look back.

Why is a gravity fed float valve so overlooked I’ve used it for years and never had a failure other then forgetting to close the shut off valve while doing water changes but it can be super simple with no sensors/pump to fail and no controllers I do understand not everyone has the perfect situation or space and most all in ones can’t accommodate a float valve but I just don’t see a lot of other reefer utilizing this approach

i currently have even upgraded this and now use my Neptune ATK Float cause I like the magnet for installation and use the 2 included sensors one mounted at the top of my sump when it gets wet I get a notification and another mounted near the bottom just above my return pump intake if that trips it emails me return section low and sounds a alarm meaning my ATO reservoir is empty but now my reservoir has a LLS that makes this extremely redundant

I have always used Tunze but recently switched to a Red Sea. Has been flawless for 6 months and I love the app.
Just curious, what does the app add to ATO functionality?

I use Tunze Nano3 on my 10 gal, but gravity fed float valve on my larger tank and I prefer it. The gravity fed float has been working for 6+ years…
I would use one on Nano tank but it would make the setup ugly hence the Tunze.

Just send in the unit to have the optical sensor replaced. I sent in my old 3155 over a year ago and it's still going strong. The repair is rather cheap and doesn't take much time. Reach out to @rvitko for the details, there's a thread in the Tunze sponsor section. I have two 3155's going now and one is over 10 years old and with the new optical sensor, it should still keep going for many years. But if I was buying new, it would be the new osmolator 3 or a gravity fed system, which I'm still using on my main display.

I didn't know they did repairs. I'll have to look into this. I already ordered the avast parrot but it's always nice to have a backup on the shelf.

I forget how much it is total, buy I don't think I paid more than $40 for the repair. But don't quote me on the price, it's been a while.

Well it looks like my tunze 3155 ATO unit has finally come to the end of its time after 4 years. My optical sensor is no longer functioning.

I was caught off guard seeing that the 3155 is no longer for sale on some sites and has been replaced by the osmolator 3. I dont like that it doesn't come with the added float switch for a backup safety.

What's everyone using for ATO now? I've looked around and 2 of them caught my eye outside of the Osmolator 3. The red sea ATO and the Neptune ATK stand alone unit. Both of these units have features i like but I'm seeing a lot of reviews claiming early equipment failures. I like the wifi connectivity on the red sea ato and I really like the float valve on the Neptune unit to keep from accidently overfilling.

Photo of my reef because I hate posts without anything to look at lol

Ive been using a tunze nano 3152 on my old 60 gallon and now on a biocube, its honestly been flawless. I think its 8 or 10 years old now. It runs for 2 minutes, if it doesn't hit the level of water needed in 2 minutes it shuts off and bumps the pump to let you know as it thinks the ATO tank is empty. That timer removes the need of a extra safety to be honest. Your ATO tank shouldn't be too big that your sump cant take a full dump of it anyways. Only issue I've had was not maintaining it and the float getting gummed up with growth so it was stuck in the "Full" mode and the sump was low on water. If this dies Ill buy another!

My system volume is over 250gallons and I burn through almost 5gallons of top off water every 24 hrs. Lots of surface area, my tank and grow out tub have a combined surface area of 29² ft. Usually, I run a 5 gallon bucket and fill it daily to prevent overflows, but recently I took a 5 day trip and used a 30 gallon tank i had sitting around. It was so convenient I think I may end up doing that permanently and just adding a float switch to disconnect the ato if my sump does start to overfilling.
