PS I had another display laying in my fish junk closet. Wasn't my shoddy soldering skills apparently (although I still need improvement) the unit I had been trying to fix was genuinely trash. However, I got the other one working!

For those wondering USB to APEX color conversion is : Red to red, green to green, black to blue, and white or clear to "bare"/plain copper.

I know this is an old thread, but I just wanted to say thanks for posting it. Following a couple of posts here I was able to fix an ancient Neptune AquaController display (I always preferred the blue display) and have it back in service on a small tank I have. I have another one that I hope to revive. You saved me a few bucks!

Was the defect of the displays mentioned in the topic being completely off? Mine lights up, but it doesn't show the characters, I re-soldered the cable, tested the continuity, but the defect remains, has anyone managed to resolve this?
