Good evening,

I just picked up a yellow wrasse from a tank breakdown. The system it came from was not healthy. The wrasse looks to be healthy. I did add him to my QT with a six line and a Blue Eye Kole I'm keeping there until my lid is made for my frag tank, but the yellow is going in my DT where I have 4 large tangs that are extremely healthy but I am concerned about just dropping the yellow in the DT for fear of introducing something that could be the demise of my tangs (Des Sailfin, Hippo, Purple and Achilles). I am concerned of keeping the yellow in QT for too long as there is no sand. I am not treating the QT at the moment, but I have copper power... I understand wrasses don't do well with copper, so I'm thinking I might treat with Polyp Labs, but for the duration of the treatment and observation, would the yellow be ok with no sand? I have several large pieces of White PVC in there and I keep it topped off with ATO. Also how often and how much should I WC the QT? It's a 40B and separated 1/4 for my 2 damsels and file fish (Also going in the frag tank) the other 3/4 is where I have the other 3 fish and I have a aqua clear filter running with rubble rock and filter floss. The water came from my DT, but probably should be changed soon. I also have a power head and can run an air line that I have in there as well. This is my 1st time QTing a fish add to the DT, so any tips and help would be appreciated.

Without sand they can become very stressed which is definitely not good during quarantine when the process in itself is already stressful. Can you take a plastic container or bin and fill it with a little sand (2-3”) from your display tank? Then throw it away when QT is complete.

Just add a bowl of sand for the fish.

Polyp lab won’t help you cure anything.

A yellow wrasse should not give you trouble with copper, use copper power or copper safe NOT cupramin and a Hanna copper checker. I would run 2.25.

I would follow up with prazi pro.

Adding this fish without QT to your tangs, especially an Achilles could end up as a nightmare.

Good call, yes I can do that for sure.. its a bit larger of a fish (4-5 in) how much depth of sand and how big of a container L/W? Thank you!

Great! I have a Hanna checker for this and how long would you say to run the cooper? Would the other fish be okay with this level? Six line, aptaisa file fish, kole tang and 2 azure damsels. Also, how long should I take to ramp up to the 2.25?

I just drop in near 2.0 and bring to 2.25 over the day. Other fish shouldn’t have any issues.

This is a protocol Jay uses, looks like he gets to 2.25 in 24 hours.

A container that’s roughly 8+ inches in length and 8+ inches in width should be perfect. A sand bed depth of 2-3 inches should be adequate. If you don’t have any containers that big then something is better than nothing. I’m just estimating based on the wrasses size.

I will start the copper power this weekend. Unfortunately my car is being totaled due to hitting a large metal object on the freeway... Rediculous how much damage that can cause... Including ruptured full tank of gas ... I'll test with hanna before as this tank has been used with copper power before (including filter/rubble, pump, decorations etc to get a baseline intending to raise to 2.0 on Saturday an then up to 2.25 by Sunday... Tank is on ato... If my ammonia is 0 is there any need to w/c? (haven't tested it yet... Also will be doing on Saturday) currently everyone is eating and look healthy. Thanks again!

Hannah does not read correctly when levels are super low. I would not test whatever level it gives you initially but once you get to say 0.5 or higher it should read fine. Just won’t at ultra low levels.
