I had the exact same thought about the live rock and anemone but the guy at aqua hut said there's no waiting period and I was just being way to caution he stated I can add the rock and the anemone right away and all I had to do was put phyto plankton a cap full every other day and about the least results i can re test when I get home I had taken a sample to aqua hut and he said everything was good to go but never gave any parametersHey!
It looks nice, but I think you were in a bit of a hurry to add live
What is the status of your diatom process? I couldn't understand it from the picture. Have you done any tests? If so, can you share the results?
Be careful with the anemone, it may get stuck in the wave motor and break apart.
Hmm, it's a bit interesting. Generally, if you add water from the already installed tank and re-install it, a process usually starts in all new tanks. This usually starts around 15-20 days into the tank. In this process, bacteria do their job and the ammonia-nitrite-nitrate-nitrogen balance in the water is established. In this process, it is not recommended to add living creatures as the water is slightly toxic. Fish can tolerate it a little, but the important thing here is of course to do the tests regularly and check them.I had the exact same thought about the live rock and anemone but the guy at aqua hut said there's no waiting period and I was just being way to caution he stated I can add the rock and the anemone right away and all I had to do was put phyto plankton a cap full every other day and about the least results i can re test when I get home I had taken a sample to aqua hut and he said everything was good to go but never gave any parameters
And will this workGood start, but go slow with livestock, you are stocking too soon after filling the tank with water. Don't trust the LFS people, always double and triple check what they say, or what anyone says for that matter. The tank needs more rock, should be about 35-45 lbs of rocks, and more flow. My 40 breeder has 50 lbs of rock, and 2 gyres running at 50%.. rocks and flow are the basis of the saltwater tank. It looks like your only filtration is a hob filter, this is not much filtration so keep a very low bioload unless you increase the filtration. You have basically built a freshwater tank, which will be very challenging as a saltwater tank. Do more reading and research always.
The water surface looks very still. You should have a powerhead pointed at the surface to agitate it and help with gas exchange, you need to oxygenate the water, this is more important and than in freshwater. A protein skimmer is the best way to oxygenate the water and also provides good filtration.
PS- just trying to give you pointers for improving, not meaning to sound critical, sorry if it comes off that way.
Yes the maxspec will work. And will this work
AquaTop Xyclone Protein Skimmer, 370GPH
Ok I just ordered the maxspec wont be in for a few weeks I guess I can put in another Hydor Circulation pump for nowYes the maxspec will work.
I am not familiar with that skimmer, there is past review on here as below, seems to be ok. Not sure what the budget is, but Aquareaddy 1.5 is a great hob unit
Aquatop Xyclone Protein Skimmer, 370 gph
Was looking to purchase this protein skimmer for Black Friday sales and was wondering if anyone uses/used this skimmer could tell me if it’s good or not. I have a 20g long tank. Or if there are other models for a bit more that you would recommend. I know they can get expensive but I’m just...www.reef2reef.com
