He said it’s not, and is solely reliant on private funding from the community. I guess we will see, but I know most people feel information should be free and don’t like to pay to see videos. But making videos does cost money and a lot of time.I hope this means that the episodes won't just be infomercials to sell BRS products like so many of the others videos are.
yeah, I just kind of lose interest when I see a table full of "new stuff" they are trying to sell.He said it’s not, and is solely reliant on private funding from the community. Can’t have it both ways for a successful channel. Either you pay and watch unadulterated content, or sponsors pay and you watch a long advertisement.$9/month plus ads? You must be joking.
That is more expensive than Netflix.
I just hope the first guest or first topic is not tropic Marin, we know what the products. Nothing against Lou but I prefer to hear new stuff. I like him and Elliot working together.
well what was he doing before then? The first series will be helping new hobbyists setup a tank that will work 100/100 times. No product pushing or sales. Just pure information. Do this and be successful.
I understand the need to monetize, but I'm not sure what makes people just jump to $9 minimum. Do people think their once a week videos have the same value as Netflix?
There was some of that, but they were often honest about product issues and provided awesome useful info like the PAR and spectrum tuning maps that I have used several times over the years. Even after BRS absorbed Neptune, Ryan was not shy about sharing that the Sky had gaps in the spectrum and there were better lights for the money. I will miss some of that content!I hope this means that the episodes won't just be infomercials to sell BRS products like so many of the others videos are.
This is where I'm at. I'll probably wait 6 months buy a month binge watch the channel then wait a few months and do it again. Unless they are planning on doing multiple videos a day keeping a long term subscription doesn't seem like a good value.I'm struggling to see a reality where people pay $10/month for this unless they sign up for a month, get everything they need and cancel.
Serious Reefs "wants to change the way information is shared in this hobby" by making a paywalled podcast?
One of the best parts of this hobby has always been the communal aspect of sharing information with fellow hobbyists as we learn together, Reef2Reef being a prime example. Why would I ever support someone trying to turn that into a subscription service?
