Was a though. Materials aren't expensive it's time in motion and labor. Even having access to a laser cutter and CNC it's just hard for a single person.

I think I can sell them on one of my prior sump build if I just make a giant ato. Thanks for the info

Could be BRS getting exclusivity as a distributor.
I did inquire and it's not necessarily that, it just seems that they're the only one who sell the Sumps alone. People buy their tanks that come with sumps that come in shipping crates and much better protected. I'm fairly certain other sites sell their full tank set ups

Seems to be packaging issue from the mfg. would not expect different results unless brs crated it.

Try another brand. Trigger Systems is great, they have a huge product line, manual fleece rollers, automatic rollers, or no roller system. Lots of options to pick from and I had no shipping issues on first try
I agree. I bought a trigger blemished sump direct from trigger and it came extremely well packaged and undamaged.

I love triggers sumps, but something like that is a great option if I don't have time to make one, but aside from the newer models they're pretty simple sumps. Nothing wrong with that actually makes them a lot easier for modification, but in a particular scenario I'm in I've been requested something with a large built-in ATO and a adjustable baffle parallel to the normal direction of water flow left to right or right to left meaning the center chamber is split and the sump itself has to be wider. I just don't have a ton of experience with the kind of picture frame style aesthetic that AF and reef octo use either. I have a pretty good idea of how to do it and have done similar things before but if it's not going to happen it's not going to happen. And that's that. The original plan was to have 2 afrs probably Clarisea, as I've had the most experience working with modifications on those then naturally area for a large skimmer and reactor but I'll probably make the sump itself smaller and make use of external reactors like an algae reactor instead of refugium and so on. I'll have to dig through all the Samsung collected over the past. I know I have a few trigger systems but they're older models like the crystal I believe are 14 in from front to back which limits availability for fitting to afrs and larger equipment.

I was genuinely just curious if anyone had actually had experience with one of aquaphorists larger sumps and the weather it was worth even pursuing. Personally I'd rather do modular based after having the lug around two of these 70 lb half PVC half acrylic units. Thanks for the info though appreciate it guys.

Sad to c that such a nice sump gone to waste. I purchased a trigger sapphire 34 sump system from BRS and was shipped in a heavy duty cardboard box with foam no issues. Wish u luck on your next sump.

I actually spoke with BRS and they did mention how well trigger systems packages their sumps I sent them a picture of the second broken 980 with the same packaging layed out and I think I finally got a hold of someone who realized what a problem that was and said they would keep the photo and contact AF if issues persist. Naturally I declined them sending out another one. They don't keep packaging materials beyond tape and peanuts in their warehouse as large items are meant to be received ready to ship. I believe the way they ship things in Europe is a bit different as well as something like this would normally be paletized in transport over there. Beyond that none of the sumps have reviews so I feel as if they actually don't sell a lot of them if any at all and may not be aware of the issue.

But to my point, I don't think I've come across anyone in this thread who is mentioned ever owning an AF sump and I don't recall ever seeing them on the forum.

I'd cut them both up and use the materials to build something else. Get creative and enjoy the build process. No need to throw them in a dumpster!
