I just noticed these polyps on the frag plug of my monti cap coral. Is it a coral?

It definitely doesn't look like aiptasia to me.

It reminds me of the sympodium I used to have growing in my tank, but with less flourescence. It's growing in complete shade which seems weird to me.

Is this something I should make an effort to eradicate? The polyps are super tiny but it's definitely growing pretty fast.

Clove polyps. Not a coral I would introduce to my tank.

What's the best way to eradicate it? Just manual removal?

I've seen some very pretty clove polyps but these don't look like those do. Is it safe to assume they won't color up

I was reading a thread the other day about someone with clove polyps that were growing everywhere. Op thought they were some kind of algae because they were extremely tiny. They were matting over the sand bed and everything. It looked terrible.
The thread concluded a full reset might be in order.

I'm paranoid of any clove polyps now.

You can start here:

https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/invasive-purple-clove-polyps.816963/

Personally if it is on just one rock, I'd either try manually removing the clove polyps, or ditch teh rock completely.
My entire rock structure is cemented together...

I'll have to learn to love them if they get out of control I guess.

I guess I could try the chemical treatment mentioned on there but I have zoas and gsp I'd like to keep. I can't do kalkwasser slurry or anything like that since they're growing on my beloved monti.
