The theory is that if there’s any sort of imperfection in the cuvette, it can affect the way light is transmitted through the glass onto the sensor. If that imperfection is in the same place everytime, your results will be more consistent.

You know to wipe the cuvette before inserting it, right? Fingerprints will cause inaccuracies.
I think the primary point you might be missing is that you need to perform each test as close to exactly the same as possible. It doesn't really matter if the line on the vial is 9.789 mL instead of 10 or something like that. If you repeat the test the same way each time, the results should be the same. Even if they're off a little from the true value it doesnt really matter because you're actually looking for changes when it comes to tests like alkalinity.
