As my kids get older my weekends and afternoon are pretty much open. Reefing has always been a great outlet for my ADHD and now I get to enjoy it even more! Now that I’m hitting the 1/2 century mark on this planet next week I find nothing more relaxing than spending a weekend morning with my coffee, admiring my tanks, and scrolling R2R. Thanks @revhtree!

I would agree that daily attention is needed but there are more laid back ways of running a tank. Depending on which corals you’re trying to keep you can also get away with weekly water changes and little nutrient control. Successful reefing is a spectrum but definitely the more attention the higher the likelihood of success.

Good point!

A little. :winking-face:

You're on a whole other level I didn't mention that's above a full time reefer! HA!

Reefing is not part of my life - it is my life! Our whole family went “shopping” for hard to find fish & corals over the weekend, we built a panel for the aquarium stand, fixed electronics, plumbing, TOGETHER as a family.

I found my dream fish (Koi Tang) last night and woke up early at 6am to make sure he’s ok. Well, my wife woke up at 6:15am and asked if the fish is ok? Hmmm.. I think it’s more than just me — it’s part of our family. I’ve expanded this hobby to my siblings and in-laws, they all have reef tanks now! lol

I LOVE this!!!

I'm already a Supporting Member.

HAHA! Thank you!

In my heart, reefing takes up a big part. My Facebook profile says that I love God, my husband and saltwater fish; in that order!

However I have been keeping salt tanks about 27 years and a reef tank 25 ish without any breaks. I have raise clownfish from eggs, kept and raised erectus seahorses and tried a lot of different coral. I still love my tank but at this season of my life I don't feel the need to face challenges and am content keeping softies, LPS, easy ornamental macroalgae and easy common fish that can live on pellet and flakes for a long weekend when we go away.

So yes, I spend a lot of time looking at my livingroom display but in terms of maintenance the tank by design is low maintenance with primarily biological filtration doing my heavy lifting.
