New guy here from the PNW, after debating for the last year I decided it’s time to start putting together a reef tank. Went out and purchased a 40b for this. Then came all the studying and learning and oh boy is there A LOT lol. Just watched the BRS 5 minute series and read the beginners guide here as well. As well as other research I’ve done in the past year.

Gonna be a slow one for me as I kinda shifted plans as I started to do more research and learning, was initially going to go with only hang on gear…then saw how much room that takes up in the tank, then started learning about sumps, then the whole filter sock vs roller vs media cups lol

Still undecided as I also saw the AIO drop in from Fiji cube which does look mighty convenient, there used to be another from someone else that you put together yourself but they haven’t been on the forum since July .

I do know what corals I want though! So I have something to work towards. I’d love to have a small Zoa garden with multiple different color types, a holographic hammer, a torch or two (room depending) and a pulsing Xenia

Currently I only have the 40b and a RODI system, still need everything else so I’m just piecing things together as I go and plenty open to suggestions!

Welcome to the Boards! Looks like we live close! I reside in the booming metropolis of Shelton. Actually, this place IS growing. I remember 40 years ago when there wasn't an 'uptown'. My wife grew up here. I'm from Bellevue, when it was considered a poor(ish) suburb of Seattle! Not anymore!

Good to have you here! Zoa gardens and hammers are where I started also. I'd advise you to do your research and plan ahead. Space will eventually become an issue. Make sure you have what YOU want in the tank at the end of the day. I'd suggest you start your build thread, then we can follow along and assist. Feel free to reach out or check on my build thread.
You'll get what you need from this community. I lived in Lake Steven's and Marysville for a while, beautiful place up there.
