So i have been out of the reef hobby for about a decade and have since had done a lot of the adult stuff (kids, house, job) and have some time again to get back in. The kids helped convince the wife! Gotta have nemo. so here we go. pics on iphone x, need to figure this aspect out better

Current FTS

Current Equipment:

  • Tank: IM Fusion 30 L
  • Light: AI Prime HD x2
  • Return pump: IM mighty jet (midsize)
  • Wave pump: MP10wQD x 2
  • Heater: Neo-therm 100w
  • Filtration: InTank Media basket with InTank floss, purigen, chemi blue, InTank Floss holder w/ InTank floss
  • Reactor: IM midsize reactor w/carbon and seachem phosgaurd
  • Skimmer: IM midsize ghost skimmer
  • Brains: reefkeeper lite w/ph probe too
  • Doser: yet to start but jaebo, will does for ca, alk, and mg
  • Auto Top off: autoaqua smart ATO micro with a 5 gal home depot bucket for the rodi- this lasts me about 2 weeks
  • RODI: BRS 4 stage 75gpd
  • Salt: Red Sea Coral Pro
  • 15lbs caribsea life rock
  • 30lbs fiji pink live sand
  • 1 block marine pure under filter floss holder
Live stuff:

  • Snowflake clown mated pair x2
  • Various snails from reefkeepers.org
  • Monti cap
  • garf purple bonsai
  • random pocillipora
  • neon green hammer
  • toxic purple hammer
  • povona frag
  • sand dollar monti frag
  • zoas

Old/replaced Stuff:

  • IM wavelink DC pump midsize- worked awesome but got a good deal on the MP10s, i would say this is much stronger than the ecotech and at full blast has a very minimal hum
  • Sicce 1.5 return pump- worked great and super quiet, replaced with the mightyjet

Setup

getting wet

clearing up

random live stock photos

i'll get an under cabinet shot later today.

Great scape.

Where did you position the aquasmart ATO sensor?

it is in the middle (return) chamber just. my water in the return sits about 1.5 inches below the outer chambers. i would say it turn on for 1-2 seconds every half hour or so and takes 2 weeks to go through a 5 gal reservoir

Under cabinet , need to setup my doser now.

I added intank skimmer covers. Probably added 2-3 gallons of water and a more pleasing waterline. Might take some backout. Worries about a rouge wave overflowing.

The waterline is currently about 1/4 from the top. I had to move the screen top clips up a little so it doesn’t sit in the water.

Very nice! My first reef was the IM30L. I absolutely loved it.

Nice scape going on too. I placed my ato sensor right where you did and never had an issue with it.

so my tank had a small diatom outbreak and my stylophoro above is not extending any polyps, happened pretty fast after i notices a snail at the base of it. over an hour the polyps retracted from the base up. any chance the 2 incidents are related to the same thing? or different reasons for the 2 things happening?

ammonia- 0
nitrite-0
nitrate- 20
salinity- 1.026 (rodi tds 0 water)
temp- 78

i have a few random strings of brown hair algea coming from the monti cap but and some green "moss" around the base of frag plugs.

i do 25% water changes every thursday night. should i do a 50% change to help lower nitrates? if so all at once? or 2 25% WCs in 2 days?

the polyps this morning are slightly back out so maybe it was just irritated. this is the lighting schedule i have it on.

side questions, i noticed a few of these snails are stuck to glass (or another snail in this example) REALLY extended out of their shells. normal?

Added a few more lbs of rock and rescape
Still need to decide where the different corals types should live.

Nice idea. Only issue, I believe a QT needs to be at least 10’ from the display or there is risk of airborne transfer.

@Humblefish is this correct? Thanks!

Any more thoughts on those intank surface skimmers? I was considering them as a way to prevent my two little clowns from going into the overflow... do you think they would help? I have the IM20.

i dont know if it will help a skinny fish, for preventing fish from going over i would look at the IM fish guards since i think they are more of a crosshatch pattern. i bought this from intank for the sole purpose of raising my water line which it does perfectly. probably added another 2-3 gallons of water volume too.

Thanks. I read some bad reviews about those IM fishguards... i was hoping this might be a better alternative. It might be worth a try...

tank is currently in a holding phase, not really doing much to change anything around. I am hoping to upgrade tank size
