I have a similar question, I don’t know how to turn off badges and I still see all that Matt has and it’s driving me crazy because I don’t know how to shut them off and I don’t think Matt does either?

Not to mention that I am crazy with a raging jealousy since He has more Badges than me.

The world is so unfair.:face-with-thermometer::cool:
This is why I think badges should really mean something. Not just " I need to keep up with the Joneses" mentality.

Badges make new people think that the poster has more weight on what they're saying when they could be just as Clueless as a new person.

Oh, did I just write that?

Here ya go bud! It’s in your profile preferences. It only removes them from your view. Others can still see your badges.

OK, I have a question about the welcome threads that I haven't been able to figure out.

Being a noob, I tend to only jump in on the welcome threads when there is a connection like they are from my area, or have a similar interest, or maybe they asked a question I happen to feel qualified to answer.

However, everytime I post something in a welcome thread it seems like everyone who comes after me likes my post. Is this an etiquette thing I am missing? Was I "supposed' to do that as well?

I'm not ranting or complaining. Every forum has it's cultural norms. This place is no different, but in 18 months I haven't gotten the hang of this particular quirk.
I don't think it's an etiquette thing. It seems like there is an unofficial welcoming committee that welcomes others and then supports other people's welcoming. But I don't think it's something anyone is "supposed" to be doing. From my observation, people are just being friendly. If there is an ulterior motive, I've never heard of it.:)

It’s a “high five” for participating. It increases your reaction score.

There was a thread about Who to Trust/Believe on here recently and this all came out, again.

I read some of my posts later and wonder what I was thinking about when I wrote a reply?

I do think that the badges (banners, you can unsee?) are like ikea instructions where an icon is used instead of a word and there is no way to understand what the icon represents as far as the assembly is possible.

So, I try to be kind or helpful or just shut up when I see new posters asking interesting questions in a welcome post.

Absolutely. Participation and payment doesn’t always mean experience or knowledge. There are a few experts on here with the “expert” badge, but the majority (from my observation) of them don’t participate much on the forum. Except for the staff of course.

Yes, I was on that thread too. I don't have anything more to say about it. I don't think people are listening.

I also agree on your question. Sometimes I wonder what was in my head at the time of answering.

The one thing I find annoying about the whole introduce yourself forum is when people introduce themselves asking a question and so many people greet them and pay no attention what ever to the question asked. It's like the greeting isn't even sincere because no attention is paid the content of the post. JMO.
Mine as well. Taking the extra time even to say 'Sorry i can't answer that' is the polite thing to do.
