Are you asking me or Jack? How many fish do you have?
Sorry, you.Are you asking me or Jack?
This is my current fish list in my 260 gallon tank:Sorry, you.
Ah ok. I have 35 fish in my tank. Generous with the feedings as well. Might explain our disparity in GFO usage. This is my current fish list in my 260 gallon tank:
- Orange shoulder tang
- Chromis x6
- Lyretail x1
- Royal gramma
- Ocellaris clownfish
- Midas blenny
I like to keep my nitrates and phosphates very low. I like to follow @Roberto Denadai ‘s tank.
Hi ,I want to go this route. I’ve used GFO but it’s too erratic for me.
When it’s exhausted after about 6 weeks and I replace it, I can’t run it 24/7. It depletes the PO4 too fast and too much.
So I start with running it for about 8 hours a few days and then increase to 12 for a few days and then eventually 24. I have to test PO4 pretty regularly to make sure it doesn’t creep up again. Then when it does, rinse and repeat.
I want to be able to dose LC to keep a more consistent PO4 level. I’ve been using the diluted Phosban and it works well. No negative effects to any fish.
To get to your dosing amount, did you just do trial and error to get to the amount that’s needed for your desired PO4 reduction?
Exactly. I want to use LC just like the other additives I use to maintain Alk and Calcium which are super stable.Hi ,
A friend of mine uses it as well so i got the dose amount from him , his tank had a higher level po4 so i startet with half his dose ( 0.4 mll 24/7 ) and now po4 is superstabil at 0.06 with the 0.6 mll a day.
What i like about lanthanum is that it's cheap , works fast and realy precise , when you take lets say rhowaphos it's difficult with the amount you have to use , where do you place it , makes a lot difference as well and you never know exact when it is saturatet.
No , i dose 0.1mll 6 times a day 24/7Do you do all 0.6 at once or spread it out through the day? It’s not much so assuming 1x a day is fine.
OK, so you must have a doser that can do such small increments. Seems like the average doser, including mine, the least you can do is 1 ml per dose.No , i dose 0.1mll 6 times a day 24/7
D&d or kamoer have those types here in europe...OK, so you must have a doser that can do such small increments. Seems like the average doser, including mine, the least you can do is 1 ml per dose.
Thanks. Will see where I wind up and if I need to dose < 1ml a day will get a pump that can accommodate.D&d or kamoer have those types here in europe...
Dilute with rodi (10:1 or better yet 100:1) for better dosing accuracy.OK, so you must have a doser that can do such small increments. Seems like the average doser, including mine, the least you can do is 1 ml per dose.
Great idea. Phosban already wants you to dilute 2:1 so I can just increase the RODI to LC ratio. LC will also last me even longer.Dilute with rodi (10:1 or better yet 100:1) for better dosing accuracy.
Easier to dose milliliters than fractions of a milliliter.
0.1 ml is about 2 drops, difficult to meter that reliably.

I use Phosban. Directions require you to mix with RODI at a 2:1 ratio so you are basically doubling the size of whatever bottle size you buy. Since you typically won’t require much or may dilute even further it will last a long time.where do you buy the Lanthanum to be mix with RODI? I am in Canada
Nice! This is why I want to try LC. I think it will be much more accurate and stable once I find the sweet spot vs. GFO. After all, stability is king in the reefing world, right?I have had extremely good success managing my phos levels with LCL.
I put 50ml of this stuff into 1450ml of RODI and dose it directly into my skimmer body at 27.5ml a day using Neptune Apex, so every 10 minutes the skimmer gets a dose. Total water volume is 340 to 360gallons. This stuff is SUPER CONCENTRATE. Read Directions carefully, use PPE.
This method has worked really well for me, it took a few months to get it dialed in, but very effective.
The red line is the LCL dilution from Apex dose pump, going directly into the skimmer neck isolated the chemical from the rest of the tank very well, I can pretty much dial in my phos at what ever level I want with slight adjustments to the dose amount.
It was a Last Resort thing for me that I wish I had done first. I can't remember where I got all the info I am putting into practice, but dosing into the skimmer neck was key to keeping theNice!
