My mushroom has a zoa growing from its mouth!

Soooooo… new to the hobby. I bought a relatively expensive mushroom and after about a week of being placed in the tank, I notice that its mouth has been “replaced” with what appears to be a zoanthid. Is this normal? This is my first mushroom and, as you might imagine, this has caught me off guard.

Uhhhhh...I don't think that is normal.

Maybe your zoa detached from the frag/colony and took a joy ride that landed it on the mushroom? Either way, following this one.

I would be tempted to see if I could pluck it off. If you had a patch of those mushrooms I'd be inclined to leave it and see what happens.

Do you have any zoas in your tank? I'm more inclined to agree with above that it was along in the current and ended up there.

Also, how long has it been there? I'm surprised the shroom isn't trying to eat it lol
