Vodka has the same overall CO2 and H+ releasing effect as vinegar when following the chart, but vodka will happen gradually throughout the day, so the effect will be less noticeable if you have enough aeration.

You can most likely switch in between with no issues. I never had an issue personally.
Thank you for the input my friend

Could you supply me with info on what to do after week 3?

I’m currently dosing 2x 20ml a day for about 2 weeks now in a bruto 50gal tank but i still see no improvements when it comes to my nitrate numbers.

I do see slime tho.

Can you give me a brief history? I think you started at 70ppm. The carbon dosing didn’t work at first, so you did a big water change which resulted in 13ppm.

Did it shoot back up again? How fast?

You can technically dose more, but it will cause significantly more slime which I personally don’t like in my tank.

And what's a "bruto" 50g tank? Does it have a skimmer to remove the bacteria being produced?
Are you using vodka or vinegar?

40mL in a 50 gallon tank (it seems like their tank is in a brute can) is pretty high.
Wouldn't that be equivalent to 5ml/day(of vodka) into 50g? When my 180g was 75+ppm no3, got up to 70ml/day(vodka) before really seeing results. 180/50=3.6(5)= 18ml vodka equivalent for 50g would be 144ml vinegar. 20ml of vodka, in 50g, is alot in my opinion.
Some big "if"s here though. If using vinegar, if using a skimmer. Need more information

Edit. My math is off.
180g is 3.6x more than 50g. 70/3.6=19.444 ml vodka per 50g.(my dose)
19.44(8)= 155.555ml vinegar equivalent/50g

I think you meant vinegar. That dose is fine and not high.

He made a post earlier about switching to vinegar.

That max dose of vinegar possible is 1mL per gallon. You’ll see a ton of slime and I’d do anything to avoid going to high. The corals will probably not be happy.

For vodka, it’s .125 mL per gallon. That’s the max dose which I don’t recommend. There will be tons of slime coating all the equipment and shooting out of the return pump when you stop the pump then start again.

I believe the dosages I put in the first thread shows exactly how high you can go while being conservative and avoiding the nasty slime as much as possible.

That 70ml of vodka is what I was putting into my 180g to get results, spread out over 24 doses. I only saw slime or any ill effects if the skimmer was inop. So to me, 5ml of vodka(equivalent to his 40ml of vinegar) is a small amount for that no3,in 50g, I didn't realize my dose was that extreme..

It did shoot back up again, 20ppm in about 2-3 weeks.

I read more & more about people that need higher dosages… i’m thinking about upping the dose more but with vodka.
Although i would like advice on how to safely ramp it up.

I dont care about the slime, most of it is in my sump + i remove it.

It all is a mystery for me tho….
I don’t have lots of fish. I got enough rockwork + i added seachem matrix for more bacteria household & i feed the bare minimum to my fish.

My skimmer skims a full cup in about a 1,5week time, it’s a tunze doc 9004

I've never used vinegar, only vodka, I'm not sure if you can just switch at current dose or if you should stop then start fresh with vodka, i likely would ease into it. Are there corals in the tank? What's the po4 level?
