Hi,

I’m about to start a complete overhaul on this acrylic tank I tore down recently. It was running for several years but I was never really happy with the water flow pattern (dead spots were a major issue.) I upgraded to a bigger tank but now I’m looking to do something new with this one.

This time around, I’m trying to plan everything in advance to avoid having the same low flow /dead spots. What powerhead devices/arrangement might help get the job done in your opinion?

For reference, this is a 50 gallon acrylic tank that I plan to make a mixed reef. I always aquascape mindfully, typically using minimalist / negative space designs to create nice coral mounting options while also avoiding the “pile of rocks” look that impedes flow.

20” tall
36” long
15” wide

The internal overflow box is a 6” x 6” column that runs up the center of the back wall.

The display tank volume is approximately 50 gallons with a total circulating water volume expected to be about 75 gallons.

My apologies for the dirty tank! I’ve got a bit of work to do cleaning the thing up and buffing some scratches out for sure.

Thanks for your thoughts!

I’d put something like an MP10 on the side opposite the return and then possibly a smaller sicce on the same side as the return.
