It's just too much time to take to read and understand the tank progress and maybe even participate.

My suggestion
would be to look into different ways of configuring those threads. IE maybe each post from the author is automatically added to a table of contents at the top in the first post, so you can easily see main updates and go to them. I don't know how configurable this board software is, but if it were possible to mix in an index of "key updates" to quickly go to in the thread it may help people get involved.
THIS. I often find build threads that seem super interesting to me but I have to sort through so many posts to try to find updates on the tank.

Just jump in and ask questions. The vast majority of us are welcoming and more than happy to answer questions or discuss our systems.

Even threads that have thousands of replies, if you ask questions or get involved in the threads, the OP's of them are more than willing to talk to you! I comment on build threads that are brand new to those that have been around for years and everyone is very welcoming!

Personally I don’t like that “build” or “my tank” threads are spammed with welcome posts.
Yes - I know I am on an island here, but that stuff needs to be contained in welcome posts and nowhere else.

That one image with the cartoonish realish scuba guy -- it gives me shivers, nightmares and eyeball burn.

Anyway - I assume part of this comes from a recent public departure -- where the reason was stated as no build thread interaction. Unfortunate, but people browse and interact with what they are interested in. I come here to interact of my free accord, not have stuff pushed to the top of my "feed" by some plan to get traction on certain types of content. That is what social media is for.

I pretty much gave up on my build thread after the badge kept disappearing.
I read somewhere on this forum that this happens if you don’t make periodic updates to your build thread. How long do you have to make an update before your badge disappears? I have no idea. But IMO your build thread badge shouldn’t go away if you don’t make updates on a regular basis and the admins should set it up this way. I believe you’re just one of many on this forum that goes to show that removing someone’s badge just discourages that person from continuing with the thread.

I understand that. People here are awesome. I just think there needs to be a section in the thread that only shows OPs updates. People have some really awesome tanks here and sometimes I just like to scroll through and look at the progress. I'm sure I'm not the only one like that.

I think the ability to pin certain posts and/or a "gallery" style sorting for photo updates would be helpful. I personally use the search feature through mine to find specific things all the time - BUT, as it's my thread I remember it being there. I do keep all my tanks combined into the one build thread, and then set up an aquarium showcase for the tanks separately with the specifics. (well, one of them, working on the other two still)

What the heck is up with this?! It happens to me daily! @revhtree
There are multiple things that can cause the badge to disappear. All you have to do is copy your build thread link and paste it in your profile and the badge will come back.

Several reasons these can disappear, but not because of inactivity or any issue on the member's part (unless you purposely remove the badge by unlinking your thread). The disappearance of these badges is almost always related to an internal issue.

This thread has been like a game of Telephone. Thankfully we now seem to know what we're actually talking about. My late father used to say that all problems can be solved with math, so let's see.

There are some people (call that number X) who find the "Mega Tank Threads" annoying to wade through, or perhaps even annoying to see showing up every few minutes when you tap What's New.

There are also people (call that number Y) who enjoy interacting in those Mega Tank Threads, and think, "Just ignore the thread if you don't like it."

In either case, people have varying levels of passion about the issue. Let's call the average level of passion, in either scenario, A.

So,

If (X * A) > (Y * A), then Rev, please do something about this issue.

If (Y * A) > (X * A), don't.

Of course my father dropped out of high school, so he may have been wrong. He once told me the sky was blue because of pollution, that when the dinosaurs were around the sky was clear.

LOL, yeah, that image gives me the heebie jeebies also. You gotta admit it though, it certainly does bring attention to a comment or post.

Maybe another feature that would be helpful is to have the ability to lock our own tank thread from outside comments, for those who just want to share without feedback? And your badge will always disappear every time you apply to join a user group. I’d log in R2R on a web browser and bookmark the Tank Thread address.
