I know right!?! The guy said too heavy but then said it would be OK to take if I checked the bag. Well, in my carry-on or checked, the same 3 pounds are still on the plane! Not worth arguing over but it'll bother me for a while because these rocks were perfect.

Today at the LFS I picked up 2 small blue leg hermits and a baby tuxedo urchin about the size of a nickel to help with the back wall and the tufts of GHA here and there. Tomorrow is testing and water change day!

Problems!
Sunday I did a 20% water change and tested. Tests looked fine.
Yesterday in the AM I spotted 2 dead snails in the tank. Slight bad smell so it must not have been too long. Water looked a bit hazy. This prompted me to test again and I saw:
Nitrate NO2 - 117 ppb
Ammonia NH3 - 0.14
Not zero but didn't seem excessive either. This morning both clowns were dead at the bottom. The diamond goby looks fine and corals look normal. What the heck is happening?? Prepping for another water change now.

And now the diamond goby is in major distress. Something just wiped out all my fish within a day.

Nice setup! But do not rinse your sand. If thats live sand, it has bacteria in it. Rinsing it in tap water will kill it.

Did your clowns show any signs of distress the day prior?And now the diamond goby is in major distress. Something just wiped out all my fish within a day.

The day prior the clowns were acting a little lazy compared to normal and hanging out under the rock arch. And they didn't go as crazy at feed time, like not very hungry.
The corals all seem fine. No signs of anything wrong. Open and extended. And the only two inverts that died were the two snails I added last Saturday. Other snails, blue leg hermits, and urchin are all still alive and active.
Looking back at the timeline I bet those 2 new snails were carrying disease or bacteria. Only those two died, then the water got hazy, I'm thinking bacteria bloom, and then the fish all died within 24 hours.

Hmmm seems like it’d have to be disease of some kind for the coral and most inverts to be doing fine…that would be so weird if the snails carried something in! I hope that’s not the case =/

I haven't posted an update here in a while!
After the tank issue where all the fish died I let it sit for a few weeks. Stopped all dosing and water changes. Added fresh carbon and ran an air stone once in a while. It took quite a while but the water eventually cleared up. A 20% water change and all params looked good so I added two little ocellarus clowns. GHA and dinos on the sand had been increasing so I also added a couple emerald crabs and a few more little blue leg hermits.
As of today things are looking much better. Clowns are happy and the cuc is doing a great job on the GHA. In a week or two I'll add another diamond goby to keep the sand clean, and they are fun to watch! Corals have been fine all along. I will post some updated pics later.
Oh! I almost forgot, I added a refuguim to chamber #2. Chaeto in the chamber 2 basket and an Innovative Marine ChaetoMax light stuck to the outside glass. I scraped off the honeycomb where the light shines through and have it on a timer opposite the display light (overnight).

I remember your thread from when I first joined R2R. We put water in our tanks three days apart.

I've been mulling over whether to get another fish so will check in to se how things go with your diamond goby. Looking forward to seeing your new pics.

Hey! Thanks for checking in! I'll have to go see your tank thread, hopefully it's going a bit better than mine.
My little diamond goby liked to hide but I'd see him out and around maybe once a day. Otherwise he'd be under the rocks in the cave he built. But I literally haven't seen him in close to a week now I'm thinking he's died. I don't see any of the sand moved around anymore. Puffed the baster under the rocks and nothing. No idea where he went. I'm guessing maybe he died and the CUC took care of the body pretty quickly. Idk...
Yeah I need to post some updated pics I'll do that this weekend for sure!
