I've read on other forums of house damages +100k, so yeah, I'm a little surprised we haven't heard of a class action lawsuit either.

My redsea has been torn down and is in the garage. I did not wait for failure.
If it's a big Redsea tank and worth keeping the glass. rebuild it like this.. Should last forever!
As a matter of fact, next time I go custom, I want one with full metal frame and braced :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

I just tore down my Gen 1 reefer 170 due to seams failing but not leaking. Not defending readsea but the tank has been running for 6 years and I've moved it without emptying it.
I'm not an engineer but to me this just looks like crappy silicone. I've had large marineland and aqueon tanks longer and the silicone never started to fail like this RS tank.

And no isn't scraper damage.

thats very helpful perspective thanks for posting that update

its purely a structural eval, independent from all the passions associated with this giant problem the major sellers don't want us knowing about.

Can someone pls advise me. I ordered a g2 500 in person at my lfs last Friday at 5 pm. The salesman said not to buy a water box because the seams bust and the stand is bad. I paid via Mastercard. Over the weekend I researched if anyone setup the same aquarium and came across these leak threads. I have been out of the hobby since Covid. I called Sunday to cancel and was advised the tank hasn’t shipped but I had to sign a release form anyways I think for shipping and I needed to speak to the manager who wasn’t there. Monday morning the manager called and said his in store g500 is seven years old and no problems and if he called Red Sea there is only a 1% chance I could cancel. I read that Red Sea ships from Texas on Friday so the tank hasn’t even shipped yet. What can I do. I want to cancel.

You should cancel, he's lied to you. There isn't a waterbox problem

Before you cancel make him search out waterbox vs red sea leaks and show you the returns. Any red sea bought now absolutely can split at any time, thousands of searches and recent testimony show

Also, send him this thread to read

Thanks. I will call them today. This is very upsetting. I thought Red Sea was top of the line. If I can cancel this I will search for an alternate manufacturer. I’ve never had an innovative marine tank fail but only had their nano size aquariums.

I'm shocked a retailer would make such assurances, can you send him this thread- we want to be corrected if he has alternate data

But he doesn't have alternate data, is my take

Can you send this over to him, and tell him we've caused doubt but earnestly want to know if that's misdirected

I just called the store. A manager said she doubts Red Sea will even get this order processed until a week from Friday yet the other manager said he doubted Red Sea world change the order and the salesman said the order went in over the weekend. Who is telling the truth here? Now I have to wait for a call back for another manager who is off today and only he has access to the Red Sea orders system. If this order does get canceled I will only get an aluminium stand aquarium.

it may ship depending on terms of the sales chain. that part may be underway outside their hands agreed. no prob/can fix after the fact somehow. the truth is they may not have encountered breaks in their region to know of the % risk I perceive there to be, so maybe they do believe in the brand. across the web there's too many splits for me, though.

Interesting. They said they sell 1-2 Red Sea aquariums a week with no problems and that Red Sea sent them a letter last year that they will stand behind their products.
Don’t buy a Red Sea tank. I didn’t have a choice but you do.

Hi, I saw on your tank thread that you have/had Innovatime Marine tanks. Any reason you aren't going with another Innovative marine tank? I've been happy with their customer service. I had a drain pipe that had a small leak and they replaced it with no questions asked. And it's possible to reach their customer service and arrange a time to speak to their tech who can answer technical questions

You should also read what is being said on the following German forum about the redsea tanks and their customer service. Use google translate if needed.

On the german forums, they are hinting that it's because of the tyoe of silicone used by RedSea
pages 3 to 5

Because I wanted a 4 ft peninsula. I wish IM made one. They only have a 200 gallon one with 4-6 month wait.

Or go custom with Glasscages, I saw a few glasscages at 2 different LFS, fully framed (300 Gallon cube) and tank has been used and moved before and it's 15 years old? no issues
I did look at them but It was either I didn’t care for their stands or after I priced everything out it was considerably more expensive. Thanks
