I went with the caribsea Hawaiian black sand. It's actually more like an aquarium gravel vs a sand. Will the snails and or gobys that sift Burrow in sand be ok in it? Or avoid them?

Just so happens I have this sand in a Nano (will never do again), but I have a Neon Gody and he does turn over a small portion. Nassarius would probably be fine, as would a fighting Conch. My Astraea do an ok job. I wouldn't put a sand sifting Goby in, the black sand is too rough and large.
Once my other tank is cycled I am changing out the black sand.

Yeah I like the look. I would have preferred if it were finer though. I would have done Fiji pink if I did it all over again.

Unbeknownst to me the Hawaiian black sand does contain some metals. I discovered this after finding them stuck to the magnet of my wave maker. If you do a little research you will find others reported similar findings.
Currently I am keeping a fish, a shrimp, hermits, corals and snails without issue. I am going to swap out the black for Aragonite as soon as my other tank finishes cycling.

I never finish anythi

I done the black sand when I first set up my tank . After 6 months I absolutely regretted it , so I sucked it out bit by bit with each weekly WC . Went BB for a bit then put in Fiji pink . Best thing I done .

Over time.. the black sand looks horrible... its like wearing black pants and owning a white hairy dog... any debris or speck of rock dust shows up so well..

I would also assume white sand reflects some light back up at the corals?

Myself, I wouldn't put sand sifting gobies in it, just snails.
