I dont think so. I plan to eventually run a UV but no clue how effective or necessary that even is. Anything should die off from no food source in a blank tank.

I took a tour of the Seaquarium with FMAS one year. They pull water from the ocean and use both UV and Ozone before using it in their tanks

Short of aquacultured SPS, every piece of coral we put in our tanks come from natural ocean water.

The aquariums often cant pick their tide and are inshore of the barrier reef or pulling water from the intracoastal. With all the boat traffic i wouldnt run that water in my tank.

The Mote florida keys coral restorations just run recirc pumps as far as I could tell.

Don't want to reefer moonshine the ocean to get it's minor elements on track? They'd appreciate the business.
Best margins in the hobby are trace elements followed by most dry goods needing dosed.

You could grow out a walt colony for 3 years and still have worse margins than flouride/iodine/manganese bottles.

Consider a diatom filter for it. There is a diy one I love and use a ton here:

Hey now. I’m going to enjoy dosing my trace starting tomorrow.

Maybe I’ll drink some shine while dosing moonshiners in my tank. That way I won’t think about margins. Or at least I won’t care by the time I’m done :grinning-squinting-face:

It's why the diy flouride and mang make a huge cost savings. I've had the same 500ml of seachem Iodide for like 2 years

Today’s the day! Going to stop dosing silicates. Been two weeks of not seeing Dino’s, hopefully my tank is capable of holding it together…

Haven’t seen any traces but plenty of signs of Diatoms. Fingers crossed.

Did they say keep dosing silicate or to stop. If not listen to them and learn!

If I was listening it’d be buy a microscope and look at slides seeing only 1-2 Dino’s maximum. I don’t have that so…. Kinda a guessing game.
Seriously get the scope. You will loose more than 200nif you don't in the long run. Between bugs and checking frags real good as well as dip you can negate my problems. Just do it. I beg you!

I will. Salinity checker and then microscope and lights are on the honey do list.
