I always go as big as possible, but making sure I still have room for necessary equipment.
Getting ready to add a CaRx, which is why I have some room in front.

Yeah you definitely get the sump with the most bling award. I seen that in your build thread. I expect you to clean and wipe that thing down weekly with your regular maintenance!

Yeap, 40g sump on a 225 tank.

I want to convert the whole utility room into a sump room but its a no go w my wife.

I deal w it by running EXTERNAL reactors and use the extra space under the tank for a larger ATO Resovoir.

Running crazy amount of light over my tiny 16 inch chaeto refugium and now doing continuous water changes.

So with the tiny sump I had room for Ozone, a nitrate reactor, a skimmer locker, a 20g ato resovoir, carbon and GFO reactors, CO2 scrubber, dosing pumps and resovoir and still managed to get dual return pumps in.

Sloppy silicone job done. Tall baffles for more water volume.

I never considered the down and back approach. Considering how much room I have for my skimmer and return pump, that theory would probably be more practical. On the plus side I have the ability to run two skimmers and match my return pump volume I guess.

Do you think the reef frenzy will clump in the humidity area of a sump? It's giving me ideas for my own setup.
I've used reef frenzy in the feeder before and didn't have any issues. I think this depends on how much airflow is going through the sump area. For me, I left the majority of the back open for airflow to reduce this possibility. In a closed sump, yes, this could very well be a problem.
