My cleaner shrimp died this morning, he was a few months younger than my clowns which were my first fish :(. He was in a hole in a rock so I figured my pistol shrimp had him. But! I have liverock so I'm paranoid of worms.
I took my flashlight around the tank just now and found a thing..

I could not get my camera to focus so the video is very bad. The angle was just terrible. I also could not see it well but I'm not positive it has a mouth. It almost looked like a wierd anemone to me. It is about 2 inches in diameter

I have no idea what it is. But the video might demonstrate behavior some. I tried to get it to respond to brine and it went under.. If it is a worm. It is huge.

From 20seconds to 57 seconds nothing happens so skip.

I think it has wierd tentacles around the perimeter that were sort of swaying. The sand is just under 2 inches there.

Kind of hard to see, but it kind of just looks like a fan worm.

Maybe an odd species. It appeared flat to the surface of the sand.
It was really hard for me to see as well so you could be right. I will find it again.

Could a fan worm grab the brine i shot at it?

Well, I'm expecting a delivery from Tampa Bay tomorrow. I have to say this thread is making me nervous lol.
I would qt the rock for a little while in a different tank in case you have any unwanted critters. It will be way easier to remove them in a qt than your main tank. I speak from experience.

Pictures are still terrible. Same spot it was in. I am pretty dang sure it is a frigging worm. It slowly reacted to the light. It was above the sand and after a minute it shrank down to the first picture, 060109.

I dunno. Looks a bit like an aiptasia that’s partially under the sand. I’ve had a few of those and based on what I see it could be that.
It would be the biggest aptasia in my tank. I don't think it is. I can see it a little better than the pictures.

Edit: it is 100% responding to my light slowly.

possible for a pic under blues using orange filter? Might give a better idea. I personally find under whites less helpful on occasion.

My tank lights are off. I am blasting it with a flashlight from a dark room. i was able to see it more and it slowly shrivels down by the time my camera is in position. I don't think it will be there during the day.

It is worth it. I have so many brittle stars and a million other cool critters. You can see them waving around in the video.

Just qt the rock. I didnt but I have a 50 gallon so catching something shouldn't be too hard.
