Those are E-5. Army ranks are different than other branches. That was before I went to Nam and before I was in the First Cavalry unit. :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

Here in Nam I have my First Cav patch on and my Sargent stripes. In Nam our insignia was in black.
You don't want bright yellow Sargeant stripes there as you may as well paint a target on your back. :anguished-face:

As a Sargent in the marine corps I should have known but I didn't

In a couple of weeks my reef will will have reached 40 years old.
Unfortunately I don't remember when I was 40 but I remember when I set it up. I was a skinny 22 year old just back from Viet Nam.
It is still running very well, still using the same reverse UG filter, same dolomite substrait but none of the fish are original. The oldest one, a fireclown is just over 16, all of the older fish died in an accident that was due to my carelessness.
The tank is mostly LPS, gorgonians, giant mushrooms and a few leathers.
There are only three SPS corals, two of which have been with me for a few years and are growing nicely.
I am not sure is any of the original NSW from the Long Island Sound is still in there or any of the original amphipods but maybe much later generations.
I still can't take a decent picture and the tank is not as blue as these pictures but it is what it is.

Sorry but your photos did not get transferred. As to photos research this Orphek Lenses. I have yet to try them but sounds good. Won them here in a draw. Planning on trying them with my Pentax digital camera as well. I would like some advice on that subject from the forum , and will make a separate post. My camera has auto focus lenses so I am thinking to put the filters over the flash . I don't know if the auto focus will work through them. That is my question

understand why I see people commenting on the photos but I cant see them. As to your issue you might want to goggle Orphek Filters. I won them in a draw here but have yet to try them. However I do want to try them with my digital Pentax camera. The issue is that with the proper lenses it is auto focus. I don't know if that will work if a filter is over the lens. The other thought is to hold them over the flash. I am going to post this separate now that I am thinking about it

That post is from 2011. They probably removed the pictures from the site.

Edit to add: looks like someone else already mentioned that. :slightly-smiling-face:

The orphek lens is for a camera phone. The orange lens goes over the camera.

Yes I know was hoping that there was a way to use with my camera. They are 52 mm and have the correct thread. Just wondering if my auto focus will work or as I said hold over flash. Guess I will have to try

Filters should not affect your autofocus. On a DSLR the focusing is from the pentaprism and I don't know where it is on a mirrorless but it will be at the focal plane not the lens.

Thank you Smitten. MS is something there is no cure for and almost no treatment.

As for the rest of this thread about lenses and pictures from 2011, I have no idea what any of that is about.

On my morning walks in the winter I normally pass this church.

The thing was built right in the middle of George Washington's Presidency. It must have been a very wealthy parish because of one important and historical fact. It is covered in aluminum siding and I had no idea that Home Depot even carried aluminum siding almost 300 years ago.

1791, thats even a few years before I was born. :anguished-face:
Maybe George even worshipped there as he didn't have much to do because just a few years prior to that we threw out the British.

They were annoying anyway always walking around with those bright red coats while drinking tea.

The Americans didn't like tea as we preferred coffee or Red Bull and the British didn't like that so they called us savages. The tea was loose, and you had to mix it with hot water that you boiled over whale oil but then you had to pick out all those stringy, soggy tea leaves before you could drink it.

So to spite the British we dumped it all in Boston Harbor and had a big party. :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

That really got them mad so we forced them all back on their ships by blasting Rap music and sent them back to their Queen and all her unemployed friends who spent all their time dancing the Minuet to the tune "Penny Lane".

But now we had a harbor full of floating tea. (on a side note, thats why even today, all the fish in Boston Harbor are brown)

The tea was tangling up our fishing lines and getting stuck on the snouts of fish like Copper Band butterflies that were the predominant fish there so we had to do something.

The Women in Boston, when they weren't making American flags got together and formed a knitting club.

They made these very fine fishing nets that were then dragged over the surface of the harbor to collect the tea. Then they laid it all out in large sheets to dry in the sun.

Instead of wasting all that tea the Ladies decided to sell it in small batches. One woman was in charge, I think her name was Mrs Lipton. The problem was that it was all tangled up in that fine netting so they delicately cut off the netting leaving a little string hanging off each tiny bundle of tea and thats why today our tea has that little string hanging off of it. True story.

Just a little morning history as I am waiting for my wife to get up.

I love the way your mind works my friend! Your posts are quite entertaining and put a smile on my face. Much appreciated, I must add!

I hope your day goes well. Be safe, stay warm and reef on!

Vlangel, I don't remember but my last 3 changes was with fake water. It was probably the beginning of last summer since I used real water.

If I get the time (I doubt it) I will drive east to the end of the Island about 25 miles and take water right from the Atlantic instead of the Sound. I feel it may be better.

I also should test the water there just for kicks. I'm sure mine is way off which is why I lost a couple of urchins.

My wife is not well and she takes almost all of my time so tank stuff has to wait, maybe forever.
Sorry I missed this when you posted it on Sunday. Anyway, I hope the tank straightens around but you definitely have your priorities right putting your wife before your tank. All of us on this forum who are married need to remember that our spouses are only 2nd to GOD and our tanks although we love them are not even in the same ballpark! You keep doing what you are doing.
