I just put in this garage lift system for my Christmas decorations. They are heavy and I'm not getting any younger and because of many shoulder surgeries and a brand new shoulder, I just can't lift this stuff on high shelves any more.

I've considered doing similar for my bikes and kayaks. Gets them up off the ground and I don't have to lift them.

I have two 17 foot canoes. I have a rack to hold them partway built out of treated lumber, but one of my brothers has threatened to build a rack out of metal. Whichever one gets built first will be slung from the roof of our carport, to get them undercover, but out of the way.

Very good job Paul! You should give classes in your community on basic diy skills. Your skill set is so valuable to have!Too many Young people nowadays don't even know what the difference between a wrench and a socket! I'm pretty sure most can't even change a tire!

Fishybizzness, most young people today don't know which end of a screwdriver to use to hammer a nail in with.

I'm totally amazed at the lack of any type of DIY skills people have today.
As a kid we all fixed our cars, swapped the engines did the body work etc.

My neighbors come over for me to put air in their tires. Amazing.

My first 4 or 5 cars I got in a junk yard for ten or fifteen bucks and made decent cars out of that I sold for better cars.

Plumbing, electric, carpentry, welding etc. these are great trades with good money, retirement and pensions but everyone wants to be a computer programmer where you can sit all down and do practically nothing while not moving.

My first car was bought by my mom when I was 15. A Mazda 808 she bought from a coworker for $500. It had holes in the floor so big you could see the pavement. Lol. I didn't know about metalwork but I knew how to fiberglass. I fiberglasssed the whole floor pan. I'm pretty sure it could float! It lasted me for years until I eventually got something newer and sold it for a grand! I do carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, fiberglass and was a commercial fisherman for most of my life. I now work for the feds and will be retiring in a few years. Most young people as you say, can't even put air in their tire.

Great idea Paul on the lift. Dave and I need something like that to lift the cover off our porch spa. Because our spa is in a tight corner of our porch it must be lifted from inside the spa but Dave's left leg is amputated below the knee so he can't do it. I can but at 65 years old and recovered from a rotator cuff tear, I probably shouldn't.

Yes, you shouldn't. I know how you feel I have had I think 36 surgeries, all for broken bones, tears or replacement joints. I recently had back surgery and need another one.

I lost track of how many torn rotator cuff surgeries I had. But if you get to my age (76) and didn't tear or break a bunch of things, you didn't do enough in your life. :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

My left bicep isn't even connected to anything so it is kind of weak. The instructions on the lift say you need two people to install this thing, but that is just a suggestion in case you are a Jiboni.

I certainly could have used another person for a few minutes to lift the large axel with the crank but I managed to do it without to much screaming. :astonished-face:

But as a commercial construction electrician in Manhatan, I spent my life mounting heavy things and this lift isn't that heavy. :)

This was my first car, a Simca. (Yeah, I know) I got it for about ten bucks from a junk yard. I rebuilt the engine and some body work and sold it for many times more than that. Then I bought some other piece of junk and fixed it up, then another etc.

I was 16 or 17

I am on the roof in the back, with the hair.

Our spa is considered a 2-3 person spa so the cover would not need as hefty a lift and maybe we could get away with just a pulley system to lift the cover to the end where the wall is.

I just picked up 3 little fish. A couple of bleenies, a scooter dragonette and a couple of bright red hermit crabs. He had a couple of really nice looking copperbands but he just got them so they were not eating and I didn't get them.

They are all in my tank smiling and doing the Macarena
