I'm fairly certain that my engineers have been munching on them, too. So, again, not terribly concerned in that department either. Okay, cool. Lots to think about this morning. I'll likely pick your brain again at some point. Thanks again for the input. I appreciate you.

Good morning gents! I’ve noticed the wealth of knowledge here and I’d like to poke the councils brain on some things;

I love Wrasses. They’re awesome. My experience with them has been limited (only 6-lines), but both of them have been total menaces.

I’d like to join the wrasse gang again in the new tank, but I have a Swissguard Basslet that I’d like to ensure stays protected (and ideally won’t attack the new friends). Any suggestions on some less temperamental, but still interested wrasses?

Cheers and good luck on the Asterina battle, I gave up after a while… but that made me feel less bad when I’d scrape the glass and scoop a handful of them into the bin

Fairy wrasse I already have annotated. Suggested circled. Favorites highlighted.
IMG_5015.jpeg

Basically all flashers. Don't get two of the same species but a couple or more of different species will bring out display behavior.

Leopard wrasse are angels but sensitive.
Tamarins are the same but even more sensitive

Halichoeres can be a little aggressive (not as much as six's). The most peaceful are the torpedo shaped ones like the yellow and radiant.

Finally pink streak wrasse!

This is a fantastic chart, thanks for taking the time to break it down like this! Based on your suggestions, I'm most interested in;

-Hooded
-Rhomboid
-Exquisite
-Nackos

Likely would only pick 1 or 2 of these specimens based off of the wifes input (she loves fish with this body shape, hence how I ended up with an impulse purchase of a grossly overpriced swissguard basslet).

Of those 4 options; which 2 would you prefer? And do I run any risk in predatorial behavior with either corals, or inverts (hermit crabs are a regular snack for my basslet, so I'm used to having to buy these semi-regularly).

My 2¢: Golden Rhomboid and Linneatus, but both are pricey.

Yeah the prices are tough to stomach, but assuming they're kept healthy a few hundred bucks on a fish while up front hurts, can provide years of joy. I've spent $500 on dumber things that gave me less satisfaction - if I get 5 years out of the little guy, I'd call that money well spent.

Another question;

To rinse, or not to rinse, that is the question.... Fiji Pink live sand... I've never rinsed sand before, I've never really understood why people rinse their sand outside of minimizing the first 24hrs of cloudiness... This tank reset is having me question every approach I've taken in the past. I stir up bits of my sand bed daily and I've noticed that within a month basically all of the cloudiness from aragomilk goes away; but I recognize that releasing the microparticles when stirring may irritate some of the fish. Is it really worth using tens of gallons of water to rinse my sand for anything other than (in my opinion) minor aesthetic reasons?

I'd have to set up a holding tank for them. NBD, but that will need to wait until after the holidays. Coincidentally, I'll also be setting up a UPS shipping account, so this can be arranged. I will have my attorney draft a hold harmless clause and send it over, post haste. :face-with-hand-over-mouth:
Be sure to include indemnification language with the hold harmless language. Also include the stipulation that any disputes be heard via arbitration.

They're all great! None eat inverts or cause coral issues.

Naoko is the most territorial but is also the most extravagant. I slightly prefer the C rubeus but that's me.

I've owned all except the Rhomboid

Fairies and flashers won't bother your corals or inverts. Leopards and the smaller Halichoeres shouldn't bother your inverts too much, but that varies. Only way they would bother coral os sending samd up on top of them when they dive into the sand (leopards and Halichoeres). But that's nothing at all like a diamond goby would do.

If I onl could pick two I'd do a rhomboid and a naoko. :)

C Rubeus is definitely an interesting looking fish, but there's already enough red in the tank (especially with other items on the stocking list) that the addition of other colors (or a fish with a blend of colors) seems like a more appealing option to me.

Good note about the Naoko, I'll keep this in mind. I like to keep the peace in my tanks, even if that means severely understocking. I do build my scapes around habitats, even if it means less room to mount coral or less viewing angles. IMO it's only right to build a satisfactory home for the fish as the primary consideration, with coral as a means to "fill in" - but I know not everyone agrees with this perspective.

My goby is an absolute menace with the sand - I'm convinced he hates my zoas. In my barebottom holding tank with just a takeout container of sand for the goby I have watched him pick up a mouthful of sand and swim 2' to the other side of the tank just to deposit it on a zoa colony, then turn and stare at me through the glass. Cheeky little guy he is.

Sorry, back on track:

I had a 24 oz white chocolate mocha made with white coffee beans and some Cremé de Menthe this morning.
Starting the day off with a little "syrup", eh?
