Actually…. Thinking about it why is the well on top of a hill? Wouldn't you put your well on lower ground to be closer to the ground water?

Nah, if the conditions are right and you get a good capillary action going on the water table you can potentially get better water quality at the top from the spring than at the bottom.

You're not wrong though.... The conditions would have to be right for it to be worth it to put the well at the top of a hill.

Probably best not to put it on a hill from whence, if you were to fall and tumble down it, you and your partner in water fetching die.
