Today I saw the ugliest fish in the world

I was once free diving at night in south Florida and a school of a few 100 look downs came over head when my flashlight would shine into them they were so reflective. Beautiful.

I went to my LFS today and saw the ugliest fish ever. Who would look at this and decided to buy it?

It has this really greasy silvery look with a face that looks deformed. I think it was called something like “head down fish” or something referring to the downturned head. Regardless, it’s so weird.

And it’s a saltwater fish. I don’t know if they are reef safe or not.

Edit. Thanks guys for the name. I looked it up and I found pictures of it. This is what it looked like in person.

I really dislike that silver sheen. Looks cheap IMO.

That is what my mother always said about me as a baby.

They are neat in big schools, but in by themselves I would not think it would make for a good environment or look for the aquarium. JMO

If these are schooling fish I wonder how well they would do as a singleton in a tank (like this one is destined to become). I wonder if it would die from stress (or disease from stress) or loneliness? Seems cruel to sell as a singleton. That pearly iridescence is stunning! Seeing a school of these would be amazing!

Well, I'm sure it's beautiful on the inside. Seriously, these could be awesome in a school of about 20 in a 5,000 gallon. Just not a good fit for a small home aquarium.

The ugliest fish is the blobfish on the surface. In its natural habitat, it is not so ugly. Each animal has its habitat and people do not understand it.
