feeling a bit hurt…. As you haven’t use the emoji properly :(
And just to be clear, if you recall the thread that Rev announced this rule; Rev and I explicitly discussed this rule and his words were that it is intended for the people "following others around, laughing at everything they say". I haven't and don't do that. You said something, I laughed. Twice. Ever. Get over it bud. You don't get to decide what I(or anyone else) find funny.

My 2c:

The only responsible use of these LLMs is if you know the answer but are struggling to formulate an organized reply, so have the knowledge base to read, verify, and correct the LLM.

The danger with trusting these as sources of information is that the LLM doesn’t know fact from fiction, and has a tendency to produce very confident sounding statements of fact regardless of how factual the statements actually are.

These “AI” platforms have been known to churn out authoritative sounding fiction, including providing faked sources and citations that don’t exist, but are produced in the same pattern and “look” as someone might use to provide real citations.

I have a good amount of subject matter expertise in a non-reefing field, and based on what I’ve seen ChatGPT and similar produce in this field I would be extremely concerned if I found someone in my field was relying on it as anything more than an organization tool. If someone on one of my project teams turned out to be using it as a source of problem solving I’d have a very long sit down with them to work out exactly which aspects of the project were “solved” by the LLM and have every one of them reviewed, followed by some serious cautions to that individual about future use of LLMs.

TL;DR:

These tools are a curiosity and a very long way from being something that should be relied upon for real information.

Very well said - and I share the sentiment to the 't'. AI is an incredibly slippery (exponential) slope.

It’s a good thing you don’t or else it would be harassment ;)

I thought we were too niche of a forum for bots to find us. The dead internet thingy has now reached R2R.
It’s not really a bot; it’s just a user using AI to generate responses to questions from the forum.

Could be worse, at least we’re not being flooded with OnlyFans bots, or even worse OnlyFans bots promoting AI OF content.

Just indexing bots. Try searching your r2r username and “reef2reef” on a search engine if you’ve been here a while.

Hello everyone,

Wow! I just want to take a moment to clarify a few things and clear up any confusion. Yes, I use ChatGPT to help me answer questions, but no, my responses are not directly copied and pasted. I always take the time to tweak and personalize the information to ensure it makes sense and fits the context of the discussion.

I’m new to the saltwater world, having grown up with freshwater tanks, and I joined this forum to both learn and help others. I understand that when fellow reefers face problems that I'm not familiar with, ChatGPT is an incredible tool to gain insights and broaden my understanding. By doing this, I’m also learning more about the issue at hand and applying that knowledge to assist others.

My goal is not to replace anyone’s personal experience or expertise, but to supplement it. We’re all here to learn and grow together( no pun intended). I’m a human, not a robot, and I make sure to put effort into my replies by emphasizing key points and strategies that could be helpful, whether they come from my own experience or from the insights I gain through GPT.

Forums are a great place for sharing personal experiences, and ChatGPT is just another tool that aggregates a wealth of information from across the internet. When used responsibly, it can help us find additional solutions or strategies that might not be immediately obvious.

Ultimately, I just want to help wherever I can and contribute to the growth of this community. Let’s all learn from each other and grow together. Thank you to everyone who has welcomed me to the forum!

Well, imo, hopefully you learned that people don't want ai responses. You can grow by learning the hobby and offering help based on those experiences/ research, not regurgitated responses that you don't have the knowledge of experience to even try to filter the trash. Hopefully you can see our side here.
