I have different acros that tend to get small bumps on them, I was told is because of amino acids. Do you use any aminos?
I don’t use any amino acids regularly. I dose AB+ maybe once a week, but it’s been sporadic.

Colony photo before.

This is me irritating the polyps to show the weird flesh on coralites. During the day and night it has very very nice PE.

This is without the circled parts if it gets in the way.

Very weird. Mines not like that. Im curious what causes this. You don't see any bugs or anything else that could potentially cause these? No fish picking at them?

Weird indeed. I’m confident it’s not parasite related and an AEFW dipping routine and interceptor dosing. Don’t think I have fish picking at them and the flesh looks thick and dark in those spots, so nothing was taking bites out of it. Dunno, it’s a head scratcher for me. Doesn’t seem like it’s an obvious hyperplasia infection? Don’t want to derail this thread if it’s not. The one main difference I see vs hyperplasia is no tulip polyps. They all look normal at full PE.

Finally after about a month of looking I find this!!!
IDENTIAL issue with tulip-polyps and wart like skin. We need to get to the bottom of this because soon those who don’t care to help will need help themselves. If experience taught me anything this could be the next AEFW. please help

Of interest to me, I too dose All-For-Reef and carbon dose. Point, could the same bacteria that converts formate be to blame for this? Maybe it thrives on AFR?

Have people verified their salinity levels using multiple methods? Hydrometer, refractometer, icp? I've had this conversation with several sps reefers and believe this issue stems from a salinity swing that imbalances the osmotic regulation of the corals. It's not uncommon for these instruments to drift without frequent calibration.

In a hypotonic environment, the solute concentration in the water is lower than the cell's. Since our corals are constantly balancing themselves osmotically, its critical for us to maintain this delicate balancing act. Reason as to why it's so critical to maintain trace element concentrations and salinity in general. If your tank is considered a hypotonic solution then water will diffuse through the coral's cells through osmosis to achieve ionic equilibrium with the system. Liken this to how our skin prunes up when we keep them in water for too long. The water is a hypotonic solution relative to your skin, leading to them wrinkling as water diffuses into your cells.

This could potentially explain the bubbling/fluid filled sacs people are observing, a brief/drastic drop in the tank's salinity could cause this issue. This potentially could lead to other maladies if the issue is not rectified immediately or persists for sustained period of time.

If anyone's dipped their corals in a strong KCL solution, you may have noticed the effects of Hypertonic solution on the corals. They almost seem dry when removed. Why? Because in a Hypertonic solution, the environment has a greater amount of solutes causing the water within the cell to leave, creating that dry look.
