What is the best way to plumb this?

I am trying to finish up the plumbing for my Tank Build and I assumed the drain line was going to be the easiest. I would like input before I start cutting tubing. I still need parts, but I am not sure exactly what I need. Should I run a ball valve? Should I hard plumb some? Do I really need to use both of the drain inputs on the sump? I can give measurements if needed. The sump is not in a final position, it can be moved in all directions about an inch. The hose in the photo is attached to my return pump and will be plumbed into the other bulkhead pictured.

The bulkhead fitting shown will not accept a hard pipe fitting unless the bard is cut off. I would get a proper fitting for hard pipe if you decide to go that way. \another consideration is manufacturers design changes. I discovered that my original pump is no longer made now I have to change my hard pipe so using flexible tubing might not be a bad idea. As to valves it is nice to shut the water off, and bypass lines for equipment changes, and maintenance just have to exercise ( turn them off and on ) them as the salt will freeze them up if you don't. I cant answer your question about drainage. I only have one but I cant really make sense out of the photo

Let's see if I can help with that.

I didn't mean to imply that I was against barbed fittings. I just have never used them before so I am not sure if there are extra parts that I should add inline or how I should connect the hose to the sump itself. Is there a fitting I need to buy to attach to the sump that I am missing?

Do not put a valve (ball or gate) on a single drain setup. If you use a Herbie setup (two drain lines) and run the return over the back of the tank, then a gate valve goes on the full siphon drain.
I am just asking why not put a valve in? However most important is to make it anti siphon

If you have a single drain, you don't want to restrict it.
Thanks for that input. I removed the OG bulkhead and plumbing that was stock on the Sump and 1 1/4 in PVC slide right into the hole so I don't think I need to reduce sizing like I was thinking.

No idea why you think a valve will restrict anything but whatever

OK, what's your definition of a ball or gate valve?
You can go to your local hardware store and look at them. I was in the piping industry all my life. Only a globe valve is meant to control flow ie restriction. Although even some manufacturers one being octo, and the BRS guys call the valves on a skimmer gates they are not. A globe shuts the flow of with the flow generally entering the bottom of the valve and exiting through the top which is on a skimmer, another words makes 2 90 degree turns through the valve. A ball valve is just a it sounds a ball with a full sized hole in the ball the same size as the id of the pipe. A gate is a disc that opens and closes by means of a screwed stem. Both can be fully open , partially open, or fully closed. They are not meant to control flow just there to allow shutting off the flow to isolate the system for maintenance purposes. So anyway enough time wasted on this and don't want and wont continue talking about this. As I said your free to believe what you want.

No need for the attitude.
Still not sure why you contend a valve won't restrict anything.

I apologize for being blunt. It was not meant to be a personal attack. I have had TAVR heart surgery less than a month ago and I am 70. Time has become a huge factor for me . Not asking for condolence's. I may have stumbled on the misunderstanding. I was going to take a picture of the inside of a valve. The only one I have is threaded. It will most certainly restrict the flow. I was assuming that we were talking about a glued valve which will not as the inside diameter is the same as the pipe. I trust you understand the meaning of assume and its drawbacks
