I’ve been having this issue for what feels like months. Tank is about four months old, and I’m still very much learning. I’ve tried everything to fix this, daily water changes, UV sterilizer, carbon, internal filter, re fresh, vibrant, and nothing seems to be working. Parameters are fine or close to every time I check.

This looks to be a bacterial bloom.

Clean any sponges in your system in clean RODI and it will go away in a day or two.

Did you rinse the gravel before putting it in the tank?

Shut the lights off until it clears up.

A bag of carbon in the filter would also help
I did not, however the sand has been there since August.

I shut off the lights, I will put a new batch of carbon in shortly.

Would turning off the lights damage my zoanthids and paly?

They can last awhile without lights. I think i would try a week and then turn them back on.

I can’t remember, I think possibly when I turned off my canister filter for a while and had no filter before switching to an internal filter. It has been well over a month. Initially blamed the sand.

I’ll give the no lights a go for a bit

Update no lights since Sunday , noticed my bangai’s eyes look really dilated. Strange.

UV is normally a good fix. How big was yours and how big is the tank? I expect there's always a possibility that the vibrant you have added is making stuff decay fuelling the bloom. I'd read the thread about vibrant if you haven't already.
