Its been almost a year since I promised my fellow reefers that my new home will have a bigger tank. last sepetember we booked our new townhome and I started dreaming of building the tank. But life had some surprises under its belt. It took exactly a year to almost finish building the house. Today I thought it is time for my unveil my plans for the tank. So, here is the plan....

Many of you know that I love SPS and barebottom (MAD FLOW). My current tank is a barebottom 55 gallons. Another thing I love about tank dimension is depth and peninsula style. Now I have given you enough hints to guess what I am going to do with my new build.

Tagging all the old buddies and welcoming the new ones. This will be a slow build initially but I promise to keep the things rolling and a lot of pictures. I will need your help in this quality build and hope everyone will learn something new and enjoy.

Lets start the build....

The stage is set. The planning part is done. Today I ordered tank, sump and stand.

I will start detailing all the equipment soon. I can assure everyone who will read this thread that it will be an interesting one.

I know that this thread needs a picture to start. So here are couple of them.

The house....

The tank will be a peninsula dividing the kitchen and dinning room...

Here is the wall where the tank will sit...

red sea? waterbox?
Its neither red sea nor waterbox. I dont have any complain against them as they both are nice setups but they are just not upto my standards. I needed a lot of customization too with size and shape of the tank which is not possible with them. I am going with a custom setup and I will post the details tonight.

Hello everyone,

Its time to revive this thread after a year. A full year back I planned to start this tank but a lot of things happened since then but now I think is a good time to start this build again. This build faced many roadblocks and bumps during last one year but now we can start the journey. I hope everyone will enjoy the journey forward.

Current plan for this system:

Tank dimension:
54"x30"x26" peninsula style eurobrace acrylic tank (local tank manufacturer)

Sump: Fijicube 36 advanced sump

Lighting: Hybrid (3 x XR15 gen 4) and 4 T5

Return pumps: Octo Varios 6 and 8

Skimmer: Deltec 1500i

UV: Pentair 40watt

Wavemakers: 1 mp 40 and 2 mp10 to start with (In future I would like to try a couple of Panta Rhei)

Algae turf scrubber: Turbo aquatics

Substrate: This will be again a barebottom tank like my earlier ones.

This will be an acropora dominated tank. I decided to do something different for this tank. Although I like the new trend of tenuis collection but I personally prefer deepwater and smooth skins. So, I decided this tank will majorly have smoothies and deepwater acros. I will also have favias and some chalices but that's all.

For the stand I planned it to be a 2x4 structure wrapped with plywood. I am planning it to be modern and simple looking but eye-catching. So, I decided to do a white color with walnut highlights. I am going with marine grade plywood to avoid any future issues.

A trip to home depot and some time with the circular saw. We are rolling.

Thanks mate. I am pretty excited. I will post some equipment pictures tomorrow. I collected almost 200-300 lbs of tonga branch, shelve and pukani since last 2-3 years and cycling them over a year so I will use those for my aquascape.

Today was a busy day. Started to build up the stand structure. There are few more supports need to be there but its coming around fine. Here is where it stands now.

The stand is coming along but today I want to share the skimmer. I bought this from Adam at battle coral @Battlecorals couple of years back when I started planning this reef. Its a deltec 1500i. Its a beast by its size and I hope it will perform like one. Adam guided me really well with this one. It also come with a manual neck cleaner.
