I picked up a 12 string Univox hollow body at a garage sale. I can't find too much info about it. It needs mucho work. The electronics need to be replaced, the tuners are junk and some are froze up solid. Is it worth the money to repair or better off as a wall hanger?

Maybe. Tuners aren't that bad of an investment. Humbuckers might still be okay. With the hollow body, it probably has an interesting sound. I've never heard of that brand but that doesn't mean it's junk either. Nice project. I love my twelve string. Not a better sound in the world

Pretty much a wall hanger... I have the bass that matches it.
Someone gave it to me in the mid 80's. As long as you did not put much into it, it still be fun!

It's hanging in my restaurant and its a nice conversation piece. I pick it up every now and then just to bang out some chords.

My concern is spending $200 on a $200 guitar and it still sounding like junk. It's not something you see everyday though which makes me interested in getting it in playing shape. I can get sound out of it but it's not good and it crackles and pops

Your potentiometers and selector switch probably need cleaning that's more than likely where the popping and cracking is coming from.. You can get spray cleaners to get them back in working order. your pickups should be fine unless the wiring is disintegrated. New machine heads are always a good investment, easy to do and one of the first things I replace on "cheap" or old guitars.. Before sinking any money into it I would make sure it's structurally sound including checking the internal bracing and make sure the neck is straight, by the looks of the few frets I can see it must not have been played much.

There is no sound like 12 strings being bent at once, and I'm also of the opinion that it wasn't played much. Would be a nice rewarding project IMO

I think I'm going to take it in to the shop and see what it will cost. I don't have a ton of use for a 12 string but it might be nice to see what it will sound like.

Anyone have a guess on age of this thing?

I fixed the intonation today. It was way off and the bridge isn't even fixed to the body. Sounds pretty good. There's some loose or dirty connections but if I don't fiddle with the knobs too much it sounds great actually. It's still strung up as a 6 so I need to get a 12 string nut and replace the tuners. The tailpiece seems weak to so I'll probably look into replacing it too.

Here's my matching base, someone gave me in the mid 80's. They were owned by Korg and they last made guitars in 1987. Some of the older models in good shape have some value...2 or 3 hundred .

Nice find @ritter6788 I'm always amazed at the talent around the forum. I just picked a mini strat for the daughter to start on. She is 6, so the shorter neck may help her.

I've been wanting a PRS forever! That's my next buy...someday. :) I've never even played one but I need it.

It has a serial number on the neck plate but I haven't found out any info on it yet.

Finally got this dude set up as a 12 string again. Only cost me $50 for a new nut, strings, set up and even replaced the truss rod cover with one from the same time period. Plugged it up and was blown away! Unreal sound! Very unique. Has the sound of an old rickenbacker but less jangly.
