Is anyone running ozone with there lifereef skimmer. Does the desiccant help to raise ph? Do I need carbon? Any questions I missed or suggestions for setting this up would be appreciated

So I upgraded the venturi yesterday.... and ... o boy ... what an difference... is one of those things that should be included with this skimmer ... what an difference... Jebao DCP is now running at 90% and not an 100%... no need to split ait intake to keep venturi clean bc inlet is much larger and foam..... well foam is so thick I thought it was a sponge....I also removed the gate valve all together bc at this point I control it with the speed of the pump ... gate valve .. even tho fully open was still presenting an restriction to where I could only run the pump at 70% bc anything higher than that skimmer was overflowing with valve fully open..upgrade your venturi ... you get completely different results ... for better I belive... below is pic of what I got of Amazon ... just have to remove the smal spring and ball and game on after that
Can you take a picture of it on your skimmer?

I dropped my lifereef lid and it cracked. My fault. But it forced me to start designing a lifereef skimmer lid with a built in co2 media container to have a recirculating skimmer built right into the hood.
Here is a photo of the low quality prototype I made. The media essentially sits in a cup atop the lid. I need to print a full quality lid but the prototype has lasted me a few weeks already. Should be enough media to last me 2-3 months. Maybe 4.

Just put on the Mazzei and you were not lying. It pulls waaaay more air than the stock. I too had to pull the gate valve and decrease my pump from 100 to 60%! I don't know why Jeff says it's a modest increase unless he meant foam production. Now I wish I had the room for the extension!

lets bump this thread. those of you running a LF skimmer can you tell me your experience now that you have ran it for a few years?

I have always wanted one. there is a chance I will do a FOWLR total tank volume would be 265 gal. I am I am thinking the SVS3 -30 with the Sicce avd. 7.0 at 1900 GPH think this is a good idea?

for those of you that went with the fancy pipes and fitting what was the price difference or if at all?

It’s awesome for co2 scrubber , very low maintenance, no cleaning required to run appropriately.

Uses large pump which doesn’t bother me, 30 vs 70 watts is negligible, but I have an open sump concept and the skimmer is loud only issue to report.

glad you like it I read tho this thread I saw your journey. does it need to be adjusted if you stick your hands in the tank for maintenance?

The LF Skimmer does stop skimming "almost always" if you put your hands in the tank. But returns to normal within a few hours. I've had my LF SVS2-24 for about 7 years, the only thing I'd suggest is getting the Skimmer that you can take-apart the canister top for easier cleaning. I've never thought about buying a different skimmer......

I wish I would have upgraded to the flanged body.

I’d agree with the “wish I’d upgraded to the flanged version,” for a more thorough cleaning and personal satisfaction, but doesn’t really impact any functionality. Otherwise best skimmer I’ve owned. I really like the venturi and the flexibility of any pump, which really minimizes complexity and maintenance.

No colorful pipes here.

Good luck with your choice.

i went with the 24 inch skimmer. i love the flexibility and the simplicity of the lifereef. i also went with thhe berlin sump. i had that on my 75 gallon tank i no longer utilize. i upgraded to the 125 and went with a different sump. which I like better than the lifereef sump. the lifereef sump was good quality and i liked it on thhe 75 tank. but I went with a advanced acrylic sump. i got this sump unused unopen for over half the price. museum quality sump, 44 x 16 x 16

so you just leave it be and not mess with anything and it come back to skimming then?
