How does magnesium actually affect LPS health?

Hey all,

I have heard anecdotally that chalices, for example, seem to do better with elevated magnesium. Is this just anecdotal and echoed without observation, or can someone provide me with some form of study or data? I would assume NSW would be sufficient, but I wanted to see everyone's thoughts and experiences as well. Presumably there are so many species forming in solution and so it would be hard to pin extra growth on Magnesium levels specifically...

I do not know that to be true (or untrue), but I think nearly any of these sorts of chemical questions (aside from pH and alkalinity) relating to corals will not be supported by an actual study, but rather some reefers that made an observation on their own system.

That's kind of what I figured - thanks Randy.
Let me adjust the bar a bit then: anyone care to share some observations on their magnesium levels as it relates to coral health, specifically with slightly elevated levels?
