Read it could of been from freezing temperatures, but that would mean it was likly cracked somewhere already. Sad, 1,400 fish lost. They had just modernized it in 2020.

I received a news alert first thing Friday morning about this. I couldn't believe it. How unbelievably awful. The tank was 134'/41 metres tall, 250,000g/1,000,000 litres and 1500 fish (30 or so species). Constructed with 41 acrylic panels. The scary thing is the same company that built this tank has also done the tanks for the public aquarium here in Toronto as well as the Atlantis resort and I think they said the Atlanta Georgia public aquarium along with others. I bet there are some people nervously checking their tanks after seeing this story. :-(

I saw this and then two people I know texted me a link! The blast was so strong it could be registered as an earthquake. Poor fishies and the people who have to clean it up!:(

AP news sources have reported that the fish that could be saved have been housed in the breeding facility in the sublevel of the hotel, so not all 1500 fish are presumed lost.

Tang Police on scene are reported to have cited the hotel, stating that the tank was large enough for a single yellow tang, not the amount that were placed in such a small confined space.

I've never had that happen with a Red Sea or a Fluval but my guess may not be far off with Hagen Industries based on location.
3 RSR set up for multiple years each, and no issues so far except a gasket on the plumbing after 4 years of being set up. Was 15 dollars and a 5 minute fix. Salt creep alerted me, and the dripping was only in the sump.

I'm so bummed to hear about this, just heartbreaking for those who love and cared for the aquarium. Such a sad loss of life too, but glad they were able to save some of the fish found in pooled water.

Glad everyone is ok.

Such a cool design, never knew it existed. Such a shame to see it pop, but like most things man made, it eventually fails.

I wonder what they did to "modernize" it?

News today is that they are off the odd temperature hypothesis and are on to “material fatigue”

Personally I think it was the ill advised 250000 gallon sized mag float
