Any genicanthus, regal, flagfin/goldflake. For me regal is the best if you can get a healthy one!

I've got a 175 gallon reef tank which is about 3 years old. I had it maintained by a professional service and took over full independent maintenance in early December. I've added a few frags and that's worked, so now I'm ready to try to add fish myself. I have 3 blue green chromis, powder blue tang, purple tang, tomini tang, 2 clown fish, benghai cardinal, royal gramma, diamond goby, lawnmower blenny, and a foxface. Would love some recommendations as to what fish you'd add to this crew. thank you!

Those are some aggressive tangs. Anything you add will need to be with an acclimation box.
A Halichoeres wrasse (go to liveaquaria and search Halichoeres for options)
Perhaps fairy wrasse
I would consider a genicanthus angel or maybe a pair too.

Hi guys! I know that at times it can be difficult to know whether or not a fish is right for your tank. There are lots of things to consider when purchasing a new addition to your reef community: What size is the tank? What other fish are already in there? What inverts are in there? Is it a reef or fowlr? What about food availability? Is it a sensitive fish that needs special care requirements? Does it require particular water parameters? Is it aggressive? Is it a picky eater? Is it prone to disease?

These are all possible concerns that can come up in purchasing a new fish. REEF2REEF is here to help! Whether you're new to the hobby, or just unsure about a new addition, we'll be glad to help with advice and giving info about our new pet that will help it live many years in your tank. Of course, the tank is yours and so is the fish, so no one here will tell you what you can or CANNOT do with your own tank. We're just here to help by sharing our own knowledge and experience.

So let's get this thread going! If you're thinking about a new purchase and just not sure, post it up!
We have a Sailfin tang currently and we’re thinking about getting a yellow tang but there is info out there that says not to pair the two unless you have a large enough tank. I know our tank is too small for the sailfin tang in general because it’s a 125g and they need a minimum of 180g but we didn’t purchase the fish. The tank and everything in/with it came along.

So two questions:
Do we get a yellow tang?
Do we find a good home for the sailfin?

Sailfins get massive so you may want to consider rehoming.

As for the yellow if you add it with the sailfin you want the yellow to either be bigger or put it in an acclimation box for a couple weeks. However there are no guarantees. Personally I’d get a Foxface instead. Better yellow, prettier face, no aggression, and far less likely to be beat up by the sailfin.

I have a 29 gallon tank(30/12/18") that I'm planning on plumbing to a 10G sump with refugium and I'm trying to decide on a stocking list, here's some fish I'd like to keep,

Possum Wrasse pair OR
Pink streaked wrasse pair,

1-2 red rooster waspfish (i have read of hours of info on these guys and would like to keep 1-2 of them)

Twinspot goby?(read that they can be difficult to feed and I plan on getting them long after the tank matures)

I know some of these will not work together/in this size tank but would like your advice,
Would like to hear other fish suggestions

So the one issue I see is that the wrasse may eat the food the twinspot dragonets would eat. Otherwise that sounds like an awesome list. Maybe get a regular goby. Firefish, vampire, yasha are all awesome

I have a 150g reef that will mainly be SPS. It is barebottom.

I currently have:
3 Lyretail Anthias (one has turned male)
1 Blue Hippo Tang
1 Six-line wrasse
2 Oscellaris Clowns
1 Ruby Red Dragonet

Any suggestions for additional fish? I would love to add another tang but am open to suggestions.

hello!
can i put a very happy, peaceful, wouldn’t hurt a fly, established blue spotted jawfish that sticks to his burrow with a pearly jawfish that is just the same way? (both are aqua cultured and eat readily and the BSJ is acclimated to warm temperatures).
TIA! :)

The easiest tangs are the bristle tooth’s and a zebrasoma like a yellow would probably do well too. Personally I would get a Foxface. Otherwise more anthias, a basslet, maybe a red coris, Coris gaimard if you want a big pretty fish.

It’s a risk so I suggest using an acclimation box to gauge aggression. They will either coinhabitate peacefully or try to kill each other. Little in between.
also, can any dwarf angel go in one of my smaller tanks? (probably the 20 nano i need to fill).
I wouldn’t. They are still big active fish. Maybe a cardinal fish instead.

Looking to get some opinions on stocking my first 29g saltwater tank. I am trying to keep it small, currently have live rock and sand in the tank, and they cycle just finished up. As per filtration I only have an aqua clear 70 HOB on the back.

Im thinking of getting:

- 2 clownfish
- A blenny
- A cleaner shrimp

Thoughts on this for a new tank? There are no corals or anything in the tank yet, just the rock. I also will not add these all at once. Either the clowns or blenny first, which would
You add first?

Hello!

I have a 38 gallon Hex tank (Taller than it is long)

I have some bristleworms and it's not a huge problem yet (I hope it stays that way)

Will a wrasse solve my problems? Will I be able to house one, which one? I am working on a refugium with macro and pods coming as well.

Housemates:
Watchmen goby (actually saw him eat a bristleworm, you go bud!)
Pair of baby clowns
firefish
yellow clown goby
like 2 astreas, 2 turbos, sand conch, hermits

Can I eventually keep a shrimp lol like a cleaner shrimp.

Excellent choices.
A few points of consideration.
1.If it is your new tank learn basics of salinity and stability before adding the shrimp. Invertebrates are more sensitive to salinity swings than fish. But you can definitely get a cleaner.
2. Consider a lid. All fish can jump but some are more prone to it. Plenties are ones that are. If you do get a lid add a forth fish like a firefish or royal gramma.

Here the order in which id do it.
Cycle. Clowns, initial clean up crew, blenny and 4th small fish, urchin and skunk.

Wait a month or two in-between steps. Patience is key (waiting will provide time to research as well as learn testing and routine etc) Add some coral whenever tank is stable and boom reef tank.

Hello Everyone,

I just set up my first saltwater fish tank, a 40-gallon breeder. I followed the BRStv 5-minute guide and purchased all of the recommended equipment.

I have just finished my cycle and am now thinking about stocking. Below is my current list:

1. 2 Clownfish
2. Buan's Goby
3. Cherub Angel
4. Purple Firefish
5. Cleaner Shrimp

CUC - Astrea and Cerith snail and a few hermits

Are there any additional utilitarian or shoaling fish I can add? I am interested in a few pajama cardinalfish or Chromis. However, I am most interested in utilitarian fish.

I do eventually plan to add soft corals once everything is stabilized.
