Since clown fish are damsels would I have any problems with them being aggressive towards other fish

Clownfish can be highly aggressive but they're not too bad if they're kept singularly and without an anemone. If kept in pairs with an anemone they can potentially become evil spawns of satan, especially in a smaller tank. However one clown should be play well with other fish depending on what you get :)
Clownfish are in the damselfish family, but they are not true damsels. Kinda like a Labrador and a timberwolf. They're both canines, but they're very different.

I don't have anemones and right now only have 2 firefish, my 2 yellow tail damsels are going back to lfs tomarrow. We are planning to get 2 cardinal fish and maybe a little tang til it get big then sell it

Use caution adding the cardinal fish with the damsels, especially if the damsels have established their territory.

I added a clown yesterday and figures he would hide once I released him, but he has just been swimming all over the tank and hasn't eaten yet.

what kind of clown? it may take a little time for it to eat - needs to acclimate first. Clowns are probably my favorite fish.

Do firefish like to stay hidden most of the time. Seems like mine will come out for a minute then dart back under the rock and stay for a while. Almost like there scared to come out

Fire fish are generally fairly skittish fish. Once he settles in he should calm down a bit though.
Just give him some time :)
