Huh I guess I didn’t realize that. Isn’t a 170 like 34 gallons of display? 45 just seems like it would be wayyy noticeable bigger. I can understand the 200 being almost the same tho.

Thanks for pointing that out
Reefer 160:
Dimensions: 23.6“L x 19.7“W x 20.1“H
My calculations say 40.6 gallons using the outside dimensions.

Reefer 200:
Dimensions - 24"L x 21"H x 22.6"W
49.4 gallons using the outside dimensions.

SCA 45 gallon:
Dimensions: 24x20x20"
41.7 gallons using the outside dimensions.
Price = 499 including shipping

The glass cages tanks seem to use the outside dimensions and use that for telling you gallons, where SCA and RS are rounding...and RS is total system volume in liters including sump.

@nereefpat Thats right.

we are just using the simple equation

(Length X Width x Height)/231=Gallons.

simple and quick. tons of programing to do the inner dimension on our building tool. The variation of tanks built with 1/4" to 3/4" thick glass. Just trying to keep it simple.

Thanks for sharing.

Interesting. So the reefer 170 is actually underrated in what they tell you for gallons?

Also I did not get a email that you replied. Can’t figure my email settings out

Mine just failed 2 days ago and 100+ gallons flooding your apt was a nightmare. I followed this thread and emailed them prior to this happening and all they said was the usual give you a discount to upgrade to a new tank and empty the tank asap.

I obviously did not take that up sale as I wanted them to replace the G1 tank as it’s a manufactured defect at this point. The cleanup was a pita and luckily i was able to save all the fish and coral for now in temporary tanks and hope they will survive until I get a new tank.

I called the LFS I got the tank from and they will help take the tank away. They suggested I call RedSea and get a replacement tank for discount but I’m done with RedSea and don’t want to give them money for a ****** tank. I’m looking at other options from wave box/innovative marine/etc.

Let me know if you guys have any suggestions on tank brands and size ranging from 90-125 gallons 4ft long only, thanks.

Definitely the IM tanks. Not interested in their 112g 3ft cube?

The 112 cube is an interesting option because it has Eurobrace but might be too big width wise. IM has a INT and EXT which is better?

Look for my PM
It’s for a 48x20x20 that’s 109 total gallons capacity

As for INT vs EXT it’s a preference

INT takes up more room inside the display but you can put the tank a few inches closer to the wall.

Ext is much smaller in the display but the plumbing comes out the rear of the tank instead of from underneath, meaning three tank must be about 2-3” from the wall

This is the tank I sent you, it has an EXT Ghost overflow, you don’t even notice it in the display which is what I prefer.

I can measure the space needed behind the tank if you want. Looks like roughly the size of a 1” pvc pipe bulkhead

Hi. I was looking at a used Red Sea tank and have read through this thread. Is there a simple way to tell what gen tank it is? I’m supposed to go look at the tank tomorrow. It is a p650. I have not seen this tank mentioned so not sure if it is effected by this issue or not. Is there a list of affected models? Thanks.

That one is a g1 tank.

The G2 variants are fine, but if you get anything 5ft and larger, regardless of brand, personally I’d only get euro braced tanks as it still provides the rimless look, but will hold structurally much better and provide peace of mind. All the “S” series tanks from RedSea are euro braced.

I have a thread about this but my 2021 Reefer 425XL blew a right side seal a few days ago. Popped 4 clamps on it. I had contacted RS a year ago about the tell tale signs of impending failure. Told me it looked fine. So now they have shipped an entire G2+ system out to me, zero cost.

Just curious is it possible to use the refund/credit redsea gives to upgrade to a different model say the premium S-800 reefer max? ie the one with the fully supported aluminum stand

I believe the g1 425 tanks didn’t have the vertical wall in the middle? So it was basically a 4 foot span that was unsupported in the middle and front. The 750 was the next largest span I believe before they started making the braces. The stands, IMO, were half the problem. The silicone and glass thickness was the other half.

As others have said, euro bracing is the best peace of mind you can have with glass tanks.

these do look good I must add. I would own one, surely enough r and d is in place now to trust these. they do look good for sure

not one single mention, though the break rate for red sea is now 100% known in the hobby on every board. I never did like that part of the sales game, where risks are withheld. these do look good though.

my viewership on rb was impacted by my waiting for a single mention of the hundreds of breaks still posted daily in collection threads. will you literally sell me anything at all> how do you vet which you then refer to me in sales ads, as a reader?

our friends, here, deserve a mention in the publication in my opinion. those thousands of breaks deserve a mention, in the same publication that sells these tanks to them. pick only the examples where red sea replaced the tanks 100%, that will still preserve your relationship with rs and get the mere mention we deserve to read.

They finally paid you off huh? :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:

I think critique needs to be packaged like a kolache.

a whole lot of bread, I mean a lot.

the little dried up sausage inside, bitter to the taste and of poor texture, sinewy if you will, must be only a kernel to pass audits in these times.

there must be a positive and a negative aspect to sales relays. for the rare times a negative review is due, give one, that's what I'm hoping for. show red sea as a company willing to make good on prior breaks, the ones within warranty, some type of mention within the publication is expected from readers for sure.

Look, reefbuilders, a devastating G2 split

Did you advertise to your readers a few years ago about the new G2 series, and potentially drive a bunch of sales for them through your site? Would we be able to look back, and find those sales ads?

Readers deserve the fair updates. Readers deserve to know you'll report both the good, the click earning part, and the bad: where readers might have to decide if they can trust a company to be there when times are bad

The only realistic action anyone can do is use word of mouth to spread awareness on forums unless the company starts losing revenue. No publication is going to publish a negative review of a company's product(s) that has a direct or even indirect connection to them.
