Hello,

I have tangs.
My yellow tang started showing discoloration.
Then my PB tang started showing something on the skin.
My sailfin has started flashing a little.

Please help me find out what it is going on and how to treat it.

The sooner I know what's wrong, the sooner I can start treatment.

Thank you in advance.

Do you have a large enough QT tank available to treat them?

Yellow looks bacterial, the powder blue not sure.

I have 2 10 gallon tanks.
Worse case, one can go into each 10 gallon tank.

I wonder if I need to treat the display because it looks like I may have at least 3 if not more fish showing signs.

Could that also be ich or velvet on the PBT’s pectoral fin?

What’s your qt protocol and when was the last time you added a fish or invert (anything wet) to the tank?

You may need to take all fish out and QT them. I wouldn't treat the DT, especially if there's ich or velvet involved.

Im thinking it might be flukes but would really like some experienced eyes on this.

Whatever it is, it's bothering them.
The sailfin went upside down to scratch whatever it is on his head.

To make things easier, there is a small whitish spot on the top of the sail fins head. Is on the first black stripe above his eye.

I read what I wrote and it did NOT come out the way I meant it to.
I did not mean my post to be rude.
Im thinking it might be flukes but would really like some experienced even on this.

What I meant was I would like multiple experienced eyes looking at this. I would like to get an accurate diagnosis and plan of treatment.
I don't want to cause more harm by treating the wrong thing.
I appreciate the help.

No offense taken I know you are stressed and hoping someone who has experience can help- I’m sure one of the disease experts will chime in when they are back.

I think flukes alongside a fungus or bacterial infection are a possibility - you can perform a freshwater dip to confirm flukes.

Just to be clear I’m using what I’ve read on this forum to help you - not my own limited experience with fish disease.

Best of luck to you

Good morning.
I'm going off the assumption that they have flukes. I will do a freshwater dip to confirm when I get home from work.
The lfs that would have the meds I need is close to my job so I want to go there straight from work and get whatever I need to treat the fish.

If i'm dealing with flukes and a secondary bacterial infection, what meds do I need? Are the fish treated IN the display or in a QT?

That looks to me like infections brought on by possibly flukes as you suggested.

The PBT has what looks like ich or early lymph in it’s fin. Did you quarantine these fish?

How long have you had them?

For the infections I’d use NFG if you have it, if not I’d move to quarantine and treat with “the trifecta” — metroplex, furan 2, and kanaplex. Do water changes and redose per instructions. Do this for 14 days, do not remove or let up if it starts clearing up well.

For lymph just let it ride it usually clears up on its own just feed the fish high quality food and keep the water clean.

For flukes do a freshwater dip to confirm them first. Do so in a dark bucket so you can see the “white sesame seeds” when they fall off. That’ll be positive ID on flukes. You can do a Praziquantel bath before treating for the infection because the infection is the most important thing to get a grip on as they can progress to death in a matter of hours and fish are slow to react to infections. After treatment for the infection, you can do two General Cure or prazipro treatments in the same QT (after 100% water changes) 5-6 days apart.

If you didn’t quarantine your fish, you should run them through copper power and assume they have ich or flukes because after all of these medications and illness they’ll have weakened immune systems. The powder blue wouldn’t have made it long in a parasite tank either way.

I hope this helps!

I agree this appears to be flukes with a possible secondary bacterial infection.

You could treat for flukes in the DT. Antibiotics have to be used in a QT.

I would do a FW dip for confirmation as recommended by others. It's a bit strange there is so much erosion around the gills. If fukes dislodge I would move them all to QT. Giving each fish a FW dip between DT and QT. Two rounds of Prazipro 5 days apart. Then move to antibiotics. Kanaplex + Metroplex + Furan-2.

How long have you had the fish? How long has the tank been up and running?
