Finally! Someone covers this!

This guy, who seems to have a proclivity for applying silicone (it's all his channel covers). Says to do the vertical seams and allow to cure fully and then do the horizontal seams. He specifically mentions that silicone CAN bond to cured silicone. I'm not entirely sure about that but this is a start.

Run it downwards. The excess silicone will reach the bottom and fill the corner . You smooth out with a wet finger

I'm too nervous about this, going to find a cheap tank at petco and practice until I have it down before doing the final seal later today after work. I also have to do it today as I will be going out of town. The fish get done with quarantine in a few days so they need a tank to go into.

at the end of the day, the tank is one of the cheaper components - I'd never risk tens of thousands of dollars in home damage to save a few bucks on a tank... just my $.02

Eh, enough people reseal tanks for it to be a great way to revitalize a tank. I'm very happy with this DSA, I also don't want to spend another $300-$400 on another tank right now when I can just reseal this one.

Going to buy a little 10 gallon tank now to practice. This is really it. The only two options if I fail are completely take apart the tank or find another dsa 65 rimless.

In yalls experience, do you need to push the silicone into the seam so it kind of seeps into all of the cracks or is the bead being in the corner really enough to prevent water leaks?

I think I aced it. Only thing was in the previous two seals, I didn’t use a whole canister of silicone.

This run I ran out 75% of the way through. Luckily I had some extra in the previous two canisters I used.

The only thing was when I ran out, some of the silicone I shot didn’t run directly in the corner. I’m hoping the smoother forced it into the seam.

Also, the time spent looking for the spare canisters made the silicone dry at the end and so the tape hope in that spot isn’t as seamless as it is on the other side.

Regardless, the visible seams are pristine. The 10mm bead should be more than enough. In the previously mentioned weak spots, I might run a 16mm just to make sure it’s ok.

yes it turned out much better. As for packing in the corner when the silicone seemed dry, It seemed dry, NOT cured so you are fine there.

That’s what I’ve been reading. Many silicone experts say that silicone will bond to silicone very well, especially if the silicone is dry but not cured like you mentioned.

The silicone YouTube dude, who oddly has 110k subscribers, recommended to do the vertical seams first and allow to dry before doing the horizontal seams.

I’m going to test this on the testing 10 gallon tank I set up. If it works, I think it would make the process significantly easier as you have a lot more time to smooth and remove tape.

There is one area I’m a little nervous about. Because I spent so much time finding my second silicone bottle, there is a small flap over where the silicone began to dry over. Do you think this is a big deal?

The speckles you see on the right side are not from the inside seal, they are on the outside of the tank. You can see the seal line close up here:

Everything is pretty clean and straight except the corners which I slopped a lot of silicone on to just ensure they were extra thick.

My one concern is just the one told you see in the image in the left hand side above the corner.

I'd go ahead and water test it after drying for 36hrs or whatever the final cure time is on the tube.

I think I’m just going to run a 16 in that questionable area and will water test on Saturday. Would still be nice to get an opinion on the specific fold.
