Hi Krista, my name is Dawn and I am starting a seahorse build. I read thru your thread and appreciate someone who has kept seahorses awhile now. Are you in the Pocano area? My sister in law lives in Saylorsburg, PA. I'm thinking when I am ready for ponies maybe we can drive out to see them and bring seahorses home with us. If I have them in a styrafoam box would they be OK for a 5 hour drive?

Hi Dawn!! :) I'm in Blackwood, NJ just outside of Philly and about 2-3 hours from the Poconos. I highly recommend Ultra Corals for their seahorses. They are captive bred locally and Steve gets a steady stock in. It is worth the drive. The seahorses would be fine in the styrofoam box for the drive. I have had them shipped and they did fine for much longer in their styrofoam box. Good luck with your journey into seahorses. :)

Thanks Krista for getting back to me. I think I will definitely keep them in mind when I am ready for the seahorses. I plan to build my tank and will seed it with pods but probably won't put seahorses in it until September. I have a 10 day trip so I don't want to leave my seahorses so I will get them after the trip.

So, I have made the decision to break the 30 gallon, half moon seahorse tank down. I am moving in just over a month and moving the tank is going to be a giant pain.

It just gives me the perfect time to upgrade the seahorses to a standard 40 gallon!!!! :)

No. I usually go with seahorses that I can find captive bred locally and it seems I can only find h. erectus.

Love the horse's Krista, I would really like a seahorse tank. Maybe one of these days.
DO IT!!! :)

My wife would love a tank with seahorses like this.
DO IT!! :)

So where will the ponies be until your new build?
They are going to be in the 30 gallon half moon.

O, will you have everything ready to move them into a new home when you move?

I will. I am going to set the tank up and get it cycled before moving the seahorses over. I will be using cured rock and some live sand from my current setup. I am lucky to be able to have some wiggle room with moving the tank over.

So am I!! I have the 40 gallon tank just waiting to be setup!! June 9th can't come fast enough. I may clean up the tank this week or next week and spray paint the back.
