Alright guys, again I always see people rank their top 2 or 3 wrasses, I'm curious to see what species make it on almost all top ten lists!

Let's rank them based on appearance, rather than practicality, etc.

Here's mine
1) lineatus supermale (1)
2) blue striped tamarin
3) male kuiters leopard wrasse
4) earmuff wrasse
5) red coris female (not juvenile) (I have 1)
6) male potters wrasse (have 1 female)
7) Scotts fairy (1)
8) male blue star leopard (1)
9) female blue star leopard (1)
10) labouts fairy (1)
11) ornate leopard wrasse male or female (1)
12) melanarus or Vroliks wrasse (2)
13) radiant wrasse (1)
14) Hawaiian cleaner
15) banana wrasse (1)

What about you guys? There's SO many wrasse, many of them probably slipped my mind. I see new species every week on here that are probably top 15 worthy.

Pics welcome!

Cirrhilabrus cf. lanceolatus
Paracheilinus attenuatus
Paracheilinus octotaenia
Macropharyngodon cyanoguttatus

90% Agreed. I'd substitute the cyanoguttatus for a P. bellae. C. lineatus is hard to not have in the top 10...change it to top 11!

I love cyanoguttatus, wish They would show up more in the trade. I also love P. Bellae ( can't believe I left it out. ) I like lineatus a lot, probably there if I did 15

Time to learn those scientific names, less confusion that way.

My list in no particular order, it fluctuates regularly.

Halichoeres rubricephalus
H. iridis
H. timorensis
H. richmondi
Anampses lennardi
A. chrysocephalus
Macropharyngodon geoffreyi
Paracheilinus attenuatus
Cirrhilabrus squirei
C. cf. lanceolatus.

And if they ever get to the States, H. chlorocephalus and C. blatteus.

Love it, can't believe I left H. iridis off my list, love that fish. Can't wait to see some blatteus one day!

I'm not sure I can even pick just 10, and there's no way I can "rank" them.

Absolutely! I'll say it again: I hate common names.

But none of the scientific names are regional.

You guys are killing me! :D

You're requiring me to A) study scientific names further (a task I am too lazy to do at the moment - with full time grad school by night, full time stay at home by dad by weekend and AM, and part-time work)
or B) google all of those species to know what your ranking is!

I know maybe 1/2 of the scientific names of the more "common" wrasse, tangs, and angels. How many do you think most users know? Especially noobies?

:D

Ford I can't believe the meleagris male didn't make your list?!?! Especially since I know you have one. I have yet to see any fish come close to the electric blue that looks like under good leds... I couldn't make a list common names or not, too many great wrasses out there. But for the sake of trying in no particular order:

M. Meleagris
Potters leopard
liniatus
rhomboid
exquisite
scotts
bipartitus
timor
radiant
xmas (any of those 3 that are fairly close)
orange back
vroliks
Kuiters
pink margin
velvet
Not a fan of choati's I kind of feel like everyone likes the challenge of keeping one alive because it doesn't really do much for me.

And I have it to look it up when you guys use the scientific names :( lol

My male is a bipartus (blue star). Nice list!
