Here is my average reef.

We like to look at and drool over these BIG, extravagent reef tanks full of colorful sps, crazy aquascapes and expensive fish. These type reef tanks are not the rule, they are the exception.

So with that in mind what would you say the "average" reef tank looks like? What does it include?

Let me know your thoughts and show us a photo of your reef!

I wouldnt consider mine above average, but I don't think it necessary falls in the average category either. I mean my equipment alone is not average. But I will be humble enough to say it's nothing extravagant or over the top, pretty good for a collage kid I must say!
Auto top off, 125 reef octopus, reactors, Led lighting/t5HO, wave maker, refugium. I will say Ive got a good start to my tank as of now! And it's livestock and corals!

my tank is just about hitting the 6 month mark. I can't decide if it's below average to most reefer's standards, or average considering its age and what I have going for it so far.

This was my previous setup which is where my current setup evolved from. I'm mentioning this because weather you consider your personal tank below, above or right on par. they all evolve into something we all have lots of passion for. below average reefs matter too. they are all hiding secrets for the owner to discover. keep on reefing and the ocean in this case is the limit.

Given that my tank is just about a year old, I can't really call it "new" as an excuse . . .

Given it's been battling Bryopsis with high magnesium, and battling high nitrates (sometimes as high as 80!) with thrice-daily doses of N03Po4-X, and the corals are struggling at best . . .

I would rate my 65 gallon reef "below average".

My cell-phone videography is probably "below average" as well . . . but like the tank - I'm workin' on it.
