Just had to swap out the filter sock. It was close to overflowing. It also looks like dino or cyano or both are trying to reform just outside the sock.

I might have missed it but is there a dosing guide on this thread? Your results are just crazy, and the microscope photos and videos are well documented, thank u for sharing this with the community

Yep, check out the first post. There's also a link to another great thread by twilliard with several other people starting to show some results.

But it is
125mg per 10 gallons per day for 3 days.

It seems safe to do a bit more but I wouldn't push it to much.

I however did 250mg per 10 gallons per day for 3 days only because at the beginnig I became lazy and just dumped the 5gram container in as it worked out for my system volume and more specifically I suffer from LARS.

Now keep in mind those latest shots of my rock is after blowing them off so I have no idea how much will grow back through out the day tomorrow. I'll check back in with that.

I had to clean this out tonight

That has become my favorite skimmer ever. I've tried out many. My current running review and trials of different configurations on it here
http://reef2reef.com/threads/mtc-mvx-skimmer-review.252436/

Nitrates
Still hanging around 2.5 but a bit darker so a bit higher. Not concerned.

Phosphates
Undetectable again

Run down:
Prep
  • Dumped in enough food to cause a massive outbreak of cyano and dinos that would normally last at least 1-2 months
Before Dosing
  • Turned off Automatic Water Changes
  • Took out GAC (would have taken out any GFO too if I had any)
  • No ozone (same would apply to UV or dosing H2O2)
  • Cut carbon dosing in half
  • Tuned down the skimmer but kept it aerating the water
  • Kept ATS online
  • Kept ATO online
  • Kept feeding as normal (a lot)

First 3 days
  • Last dose last night. Dosed 5 grams per day for 3 days for around 200 gallon system volume.
End of day 3 going into day 4
  • Added filter sock. Also had to change that sock already
  • Blew of all surfaces
  • Brought skimmer back online
Don't think I left any major details out?

Some growth back which some was from areas I didn't get fully. But some areas had some dino bubbles again that I did hit. But I was expecting quite a bit more growth back.

Fyi, I'm swapping between two felt 100 micron filter socks. Rinsing them off in a sink.

Nitrates today again a bit darker and I'd say more towards the 5 side. Still not worried one bit. My target for nitrates is 5 so to me this is perfect.

Phosphates 0.009. I really wish this would go up as well. I'd like this to be between 0.02 and 0.08.

Changed the filter sock out again this morning. But it wasn't overflowing this morning like it was yesterday morning. There was a good 1-2" from the top. Switched it out as I had the time now. I expect it should last the day this time.

Looking good today. Some very minor growth back. What I'm surprised about is the cyano is not growing back anywhere near like I thought it would.

Just blew off surfaces. And when I say that I'm literally blowing off all surfaces that I can including the sand bottom. Glass, pumps, overflow, rocks, sand, etc

In about 15 minutes I'll go change filter socks again and will pull a sample from the sock to find any dinos and see what they look like under the scope.

Some very interesting things. Still some very healthy looking dinos. Seeing quite a bit more of those odd shaped dinos. They seem smaller. Saw some dinos splitting or possibly fusion I believe. Possibly some cysts.

I have to try and find that odd shaped and sliggtly smaller one I haven't seen before. Possible mutation from the metro? But then again there are over 2000 variety.

I did get some video capturing the transverse and longitudinal flagellum.

I'll have to get it all uploaded and posted tomorrow sometime.
