Would propylene glycol have any adverse effects if added directly to a reef tank?

I'm asking from a purely chemical stand point. Would it simply be consumed as any other organic carbon source?

Edit: assuming reasonable additions (2-3ml a week)

I don't know the answer, but my expectation is that it will act similarly to some other carbon sources, but I would not assume that corals and sponges can use it directly the way they can acetate from vinegar.

Thanks for the input. I'm not so much worried about its ability to function as a carbon source, but rather any interactions it may have with tank water, ie pulling things out of solution and making new compounds.
