I picked up a Zebra Barred Goby earlier after brief research.

Did a little more and several sites say they do best in pairs or more.

Should I get another, or would he be fine alone?

I started with two, and a trio of blue gudgeons. After a series of unfortunate events (mostly involving ich...) I wound up with just one zebra-bar. He's doing just fine in a mixed community with fairy wrasses, a coral beauty angel, a firefish, a kole tang, a couple of clownfish, a trio of azure damsels . . . well, you get the picture.

I wouldn't worry about your singleton - but do keep the tank covered. They can launch.

As long as there are other open water planktivores, it will be fine. However, if it is never coming out, another dartfish or two will help it come out more.
