I tend to take the dart board approach. I know where I want them to be and I hope that's where they land?

Usually, if I buy a coral I go home, look at the tank and whatever bare spots are available, and then I try to figure out which spot has the best conditions (flow and lighting both) for the coral. It's probably the wrong way - I should probably pick a spot and purchase a specific coral for that spot but I don't...

Guesswork. My tank has very little intensity difference so everything goes anywhere except I try to put lower light stuff towards the corners or lower but since the tank is a lagoon, lower doesn't change the intensity very much.
