I’ve had this blue hippo for about 6 days now. He rarely eats and sometimes swims around. Now all of a sudden he is sitting by this heater at the top of the tank the whole time or sometimes he sits in the same corner and just sits there. What should I do please help lol?!

Can’t really see anything, can you retake the photos under white light?
Also, what are the water conditions, other fish in the tank, is it breathing fast, what foods are you trying to feed it?

I’ve tried to take my best pictures. Looks like he got worse from earlier this morning. I do not have a QT tank but I do have a 5 gallon bucket lol. My neighbor had bought me those pellets that are right there when I was on vacation but I mainly feed shrimp. I have two sea weed clips but he doesn’t move around the clip is right in front of him. Now that I look I don’t think I had a good picture but his stomach is worse it has a spot. He hardly eats at all he only eats leftover pellets that are at the ground.

I’m struggling to see anything in the photos. Those pellets are a great food. This species usually doesn’t eat much nori. Have you tried frozen mysid shrimp on it?
Is it breathing fast?
Without a treatment tank, your options are limited.

They can be hard to get a healthy one . Sadly without a hospital tank and medications It doesn’t look promising .

for the first week or so they do hide and wedge themselves between objects if they don’t feel safe .
even at night when the lights go out . I’ve had one that used to tuck himself between rocks for the night .
Good quality food and with no other aggression seamed to work best for me .

You can use a 5 gal bucket with a small heater and an air stone for a QT. It’s actually convenient as it’s easy to clean out and do large water changes every couple of days. If you have two you can have the other bucket ready and pop him straight in.

Describe water conditions in terms of stability.
This fish does not like poor water conditions or fluctuations in chemistry.

He’ll eat what he ate at the source you got him from.

Do you know what he was being feed as a juvenile?

The last picture looks like he has a white film on him....does he?
To be honest I can’t really see it or tell if he has film. He is constantly changing throughout the day. In the morning he was pale with random spots. Then later today he was perfectly fine. Now he is perfect swimming around doing whatever.

I have tried the frozen mysis shrimp he swims up to it and has a tiny little bit. How do I tell if he is breathing fast?

He usually sits on top of my heater even at night. One day I decided just to put my finger in and he just swam into it. Maybe it’s the possibility that he has zero friends in the tank lol. And my lavender tang is just the big tang in the tank and he may just be scared of him. I’m going to buy specifically herbivore algae pellets for him to see if that helps

To be honest I do not. I can do a water test tomorrow when I’m back from school

I will. I’ve had him for 6 days now he’s just been chilling. I was going to take him back to the store but he looked to be doing perfectly fine

I wonder how terrible you might feel if your laziness today ended up with Your sick fish passing and could have been corrected .
Please calm down. You don’t even know who I am and how old I am. I could be under 18 for All you know. It’s fine though. My laziness is me sitting in front of the tank right now replying to everyone who is in this thread. I’m not even in bed I’m sitting on a bucket testing water it was a joke, and I could see how u might have taken it like it wasn’t sorry. I will post pictures in a few minutes
